Wood ear mushroom is also known as cat ear mushroom. Scientific name Auricularia polytricha Sacc. Belongs to the Auriculariaceae family.


1. Plant description


This type of mushroom looks like a human ear (mộc: wood, nhi: ear) with a light brown, hairy exterior and a smooth, dark brown interior. The gelatinous fruiting body is initially cup-shaped, gradually becoming ear-shaped or leaf-shaped, mostly flat, smooth, and rarely wrinkled. The base often has reddish-gray folds, sometimes purple. The diameter can be up to 15cm.

2. Distribution, collection and processing


Grows wild on trees, rotten branches, in forests or in the plains on some trees such as fig trees, elm trees, cassava trees, locust trees, mulberry trees. Currently produced industrially. Picked, dried or sun-dried. When used as medicine, it is roasted.

3. Uses and dosage

In addition to its use as food, wood ear is used as an antidote, to treat dysentery, constipation and menorrhagia. Use 6-12g per day in powder form (burned and ground into powder), divided into several times a day.
