Program "One melon - one heart": Warmth of Quang Nam

(Baonghean.vn) - Thanks to the call from young people on Facebook in advance, the information about buying melons to support Quang Nam spread quickly. The melon transport truck had not yet arrived, but many people in Vinh City had already arrived, waiting to buy.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tu (30 years old), in charge of the group transporting and packing watermelons from Quang Nam to Vinh City, shared: “I read on the internet and saw that Quang Nam people were having difficulties, so I contacted my friends in Hanoi to open a point of sale in Vinh City. I received the campaign and distributed it to the points of sale in the city including: No. 1 Nguyen Van Cu, No. 6 Nguyen Van Cu, No. 337 Nguyen Van Cu, No. 9 Nguyen Sy Sach, Hung Dung football field, C7 Quang Trung, No. 51 Le Hong Phong, No. 53 Nguyen Duc Canh... Each point from 500 kg - 1 ton, that was the initial quantity”.

These melons were purchased by many volunteer groups and many departments in Vinh City.

Ms. Tu also said that the purpose of the campaign is to help people in Quang Nam overcome difficulties. Because the watermelon area is very large, while people are being forced to pay low prices by traders. The selling price is 5,000 VND/kg, all the money from the sale will be collected at the Hanoi end, and then this money will be given back to the people in Quang Nam.

At points 9 Nguyen Sy Sach, C7 Quang Trung, the melons were sold out in just 20 minutes. At Hung Phuc soccer field, priority was given to customers who had ordered 1-2 days in advance. Therefore, many groups and people who came to buy melons had to sadly go home in the rain, waiting until 12 o'clock tonight when 5 more tons of melons will arrive to buy.

Ms. Vu Thi Ha (31 years old, residing in Dong Vinh Ward, Vinh City) shared: “I learned about this activity through the Facebook page, I feel that the program is very meaningful with the tradition of helping each other. I braved the rain to buy about 3-4 quintals of melons but there were no more so I felt a bit regretful, I had to wait for the next trip back”.

On each bus, banners with the slogan “One melon – One heart” were also displayed by the bus owner.

Ms. Ninh Thi Cam Huyen, an employee of Viettinbank, said: “Through the news program, the websites talked about the people of Quang Nam struggling with the damage to the watermelon crop caused by the flood. So I mobilized my colleagues to join hands to buy 1 ton of watermelon, sharing the difficulties with the people of Quang Nam.”

Previously, on March 29, young people in Quang Nam started a campaign to sell agricultural products to help people in flooded areas and created a great impact. Initially, this campaign was carried out in Quang Nam, then in Da Nang, Thanh Hoa, Hanoi and now has reached Nghe An.

A series of fan pages attracting thousands of likes were created. With the large information sharing from social networks, many young people and people have come to the melon selling points to buy to support the people of Quang Nam. Every day when melons are sold, many banners with slogans attracting people to buy melons are also hung at the selling points.
