"The story of the Korean lotus" and... West Lake!
The exhibition "Story of Lotus" includes 41 photographic works by author Lee Sang Bok taking place from June 20 - 29 at the Korean Cultural Center (49 - Nguyen Du, Hanoi).
Korean lotus flowers bloom all... four seasons!
Author Lee Sang Bok (currently working at the Korean International School in Hanoi) is a teacher with 30 years of experience in the profession. He came to Vietnam in June 2013 and has been here for a full year now. For author Lee Sang Bok, Korea is a country with a lot of lotus, so regardless of the season, he travels everywhere to take pictures of lotus. During that time, he has also held several exhibitions and won awards 9 times.
According to Director of the Korean Cultural Center Park Nark Jong, author Lee Sang Bok has a special interest in lotus, so when he came to Vietnam, Lee Sang Bok also spent time taking pictures of Vietnamese lotus.

Harmony, a work by Lee Sang Bok |
Although they share the same name, the Korean lotus has a different shade from the flower that is considered the national flower of Vietnam, and the images of lotus flowers reflected through the lens of author Lee Sang Bok convey stories with strong Korean characteristics.
As a country with four distinct seasons, Korean lotus in general and Lee Sang Bok's in particular shine with a light pink color and shy beauty. With his delicate eyes, Lee Sang Bok has recorded all "four seasons of Korean lotus, with each moment of change of lotus in all four seasons of spring, summer, autumn, winter... to introduce to Vietnamese audiences, at the same time bringing to Korean audiences sacred moments when admiring the colorful lotus of their beloved homeland.
Love Vietnamese girls taking pictures next to lotus flowers...
While introducing 41 photos in the exhibition by author Lee Sang Bok, Director of the Korean Cultural Center Park Nark Jong added: “I am currently living in a house near West Lake. Every weekend, I ride my bike or walk around the lake. I have seen many young people gathering to take photos in the lotus areas of West Lake. In particular, I really like the image of Vietnamese girls wearing Ao Dai standing and taking photos with lotus flowers as the background. I took a few photos and felt very happy (laughs)”.
However, the photos in the exhibition by author Lee Sang Bok only take pictures of lotus with bees, butterflies, dragonflies...; there are no beautiful Korean girls, because that is the author's personal preference. Lee Sang Bok only puts natural elements into his photos.

"Of course, in Korea, many authors also put objects and people in their photos. However, in Vietnam, most of the Vietnamese photos always have harmony between people and landscapes. And although I am not an expert, I personally like photos through which we can see the harmony between people and nature" - Mr. Park Nark Jong emphasized.
When asked, recently in the "trend" of taking pictures of lotus flowers in West Lake, Hanoi, there have been some "hot" photos "smearing" the lotus flowers, but Director of the Korean Cultural Center Park Nark Jong said, he has never seen any photos like that so "cannot have a proper answer on this issue".
