According to the Telegraph, Russian President Vladimir Putin has increased concerns about a possible conflict with NATO, through a surprise trip to Kaliningrad. Especially the European Union (EU) member states bordering this Russian land are very scared.

President Putin's trip to Kaliningrad comes amid growing EU concerns that the region could become a flashpoint for conflict in the future.

The Telegraph reported that as President Putin’s plane approached the Baltic Sea, fighter jets off the eastern coast of Sweden’s Gotland Island were put on red alert. Before the Kremlin leader’s plane landed in Kaliningrad, a NATO reconnaissance plane from the Dutch air force circled over the Baltic Sea.

"President Putin appeared to be mocking the Baltic states, as he flew over Estonia and around the coasts of Latvia and Lithuania in a plane dubbed the 'Kremlin in the air'," the Telegraph wrote.

Amid the unease of NATO countries, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the visit did not carry any message to NATO countries in the region, but was just routine work for the president.

On January 25, President Putin visited Kaliningrad. Here, the Russian leader had the opportunity to talk to university students. In addition, Mr. Putin chaired a meeting on the region's socio-economic development plan and met with Kaliningrad Governor Anton Alikhanov./.
