Experts from Bach Mai Hospital directly instructed medical staff at Cua Dong General Hospital on treatment methods for some musculoskeletal diseases. For example, in the case of patient Tran Van Th. (60 years old, Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh) who came to the hospital for examination, with aching legs and knees, unable to walk, forced to sit in a wheelchair for 3-4 consecutive days; was diagnosed with gout and polyarthritis. Mr. Th. had fluid aspirated and knee injections performed directly by a team of doctors from Cua Dong General Hospital and Bach Mai Hospital. After treatment, the patient was able to walk normally and no longer had to rely on a wheelchair.

Evaluating the effectiveness of technology transfer at Cua Dong General Hospital, Dr. Hoang Van Dung - Orthopedic specialist, Bach Mai Hospital said: "As a grade 3 district hospital, the facilities are invested like grade 1 (full of 128-slice CT scanners, MRI, etc.), the number of patients examined and treated is large, with a variety of diseases. With a team of highly specialized and experienced doctors, after being standardized, we believe that doctors at Cua Dong General Hospital will diagnose and treat patients with musculoskeletal diseases effectively without having to transfer to the Central level".

This is a valuable opportunity for medical staff of Cua Dong General Hospital to learn and access new knowledge and techniques in examination and treatment in general and musculoskeletal diseases in particular.

In addition, the hospital's doctors and nurses were also directly instructed on the principles of diagnosis and treatment methods for each case by Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Hung - Head of the Department of Orthopedics, Bach Mai Hospital, Dr. Hoang Van Dung and other specialist doctors, when directly examining patients in the hospital rooms.

Effective treatment of musculoskeletal diseases

Musculoskeletal system diseases are very diverse, with about 200 different types of diseases. Musculoskeletal diseases are divided into two groups: The first is the group with trauma, including sports injuries, traffic accidents, work accidents, etc. The second is the group without trauma, including many types of musculoskeletal diseases such as: systemic diseases, crystal joint diseases, infectious diseases related to the musculoskeletal system; non-inflammatory musculoskeletal diseases, soft tissue diseases around joints and other musculoskeletal diseases.

On average, the hospital receives and treats more than 100 patients with musculoskeletal diseases every day. Currently, Cua Dong General Hospital has combined many internal and surgical measures, physical therapy, rehabilitation and oriental medicine to bring good treatment results for patients with these diseases.

In particular, arthroscopic techniques are effective in treating cases of osteoarthritis, joint infections, ligament and meniscal injuries, synovial membrane removal, etc. Hip and knee replacement, artificial disc replacement, and spinal orthopedics are routinely performed at the hospital.

Patient Ho Thi L. (34 years old, Dien Chau) was brought to the hospital by her family due to a traffic accident, pain, swelling and limited mobility of the right mass joint. After examination and necessary paraclinical and MRI tests, the patient was diagnosed by the hospital's surgical specialists with right mass joint injury, anterior cruciate ligament rupture, requiring arthroscopic surgery to reconstruct the cruciate ligament. This is a modern surgical method with many outstanding advantages, performed "all inside" with minimal intervention, helping to heal tendons and bones quickly. After surgery, Ms. L. recovered well, is practicing walking with crutches and can soon return to normal activities.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Kien - Chairman of the Board of Directors - General Director of Cua Dong General Hospital: In the coming time, the Hospital will continue to invest in modern and synchronous facilities and equipment, and train high-quality human resources; at the same time, effectively promote the "satellite hospital" project, inviting leading experts in various fields to transfer central-level techniques at the hospital. Aiming at the common goal of the Hospital is to bring patients the best quality medical services and meet the increasing health care needs of people coming here for examination and treatment./.
