Expert: Possible clash at sea between US - Russia and NATO failure?
The United States should not overdo exercises on Russia's borders, as Washington is underestimating the risks of such maneuvers, according to Lyle Goldstein, a professor at the China Maritime Studies Institute at the US Naval War College.
According to Professor Lyle Goldstein, in the waters of the Sea of Azov, as well as along the Black Sea coast, there are at least 18 thousand torpedoes from World War II. If NATO ships accidentally detonate one of them, they could provoke a naval clash with Russia, leading to a complete defeat for the coalition forces.
In this case, NATO has some political value in the "zero phase", but in reality, it cannot play a significant role in the real conflict.
The United States was lucky, because according to the Montreux Convention, American aircraft carriers cannot pass through the Turkish Straits, because otherwise they would be very quickly destroyed by Russian submarines, missile systems, missile boats and sea-based aircraft, equipped with anti-ship missiles, as with the new "Kinzhal" complex.
Improving America's chances can only happen if Washington revises its strategy and begins to vigorously develop submarine weapons, as well as the latest drones.
