Summer school story in Ky Son: Cutting down trees from the top
Summer teaching and learning in Ky Son this year is a new policy of the district in general and of the Ky Son Education sector in particular to foster knowledge for weak students, students "sitting in the wrong class" in all levels of education, focusing on primary and secondary schools.
In fact, in Ky Son today, the number of students "sitting in the wrong class" accounts for about 26-30% of the total number of students. Through the inspection and examination of the quality of learning and teaching by the Ky Son Department of Education, last May, many worrying things were discovered: There are still quite a few students in grades 7, 8, and even 9 who cannot read or write or cannot read and write well.

At Huu Lap Secondary School, there are more teachers than students. Bao Thang Secondary School - one of the schools with the most difficult transportation conditions in the district - is even worse. Ms. Thanh, a primary school teacher at the school, said: "Only 10-20% of students attend class, so teaching and learning is forced. If we don't teach, we get scolded, and there's no mood to teach when there are only one or two students sitting absent-mindedly in the classroom."
Not to mention the quality of teaching and learning, but just looking at the sad reality above, we cannot help but feel sad. Will these weak students become less weak? Will the students "sitting in the wrong class" be able to move up to the next grade when their studies are sometimes interrupted, sometimes stopped?
This article does not go into detail about why the attendance rate is low. There are many reasons for this, not to mention the students, even the teachers feel sorry for themselves when they have to go to each house to persuade a few students to teach. That seems acceptable even without a summer teaching allowance for them, but going to school for a whole month without being able to go to class makes them feel.... uneasy.
In the recent exam, in Ky Son, there were only 26 students who graduated from high school. None of them passed the BTVH program. Ky Son is a mountainous district, where people's lives are still poor, not enough to eat, let alone go to school to get an education. Those difficulties have always been of concern and shared by our Party and State. We should not use that as an excuse to justify the weaknesses that have existed for so long in the district's education sector, but must look straight at the truth to find the right direction for the long-term development of education. Everything has its roots and tips, teaching and summer school in Ky Son this year is like "cutting down a tree from the top", so to "fall down a tree" requires not only a lot of effort but also a lot of money.
