Orphan girl overcomes fate
(Baonghean) -Not feeling inferior about her fate, the 12-year-old girl in Do Luong district has made many people admire her for her perseverance, hard work and impressive academic achievements.
At around 2am on April 12, 2000, Mr. Nguyen Hong Tuan, residing in Hamlet 10, Thinh Son Commune, went to collect eel tubes early on National Highway 7A when he heard the cry of a child in a rice milling kiosk. He approached and discovered a newborn baby girl, next to her was a milk bottle, 4 diapers, 2 shirts and a striped cloth. Feeling sorry for the abandoned child, he took her home and raised her and named her Nguyen Thi Tinh Thuong.
Although the family was poor and their two eldest sons had dropped out of school to help the family, the couple was determined to raise the child. The husband often went away to work, and the wife received 7 more fields to earn money to raise the children. Thus, little Thuong grew up under the care of the family of Mr. Nguyen Hong Tuan and Ms. Nguyen Thi Vinh.
After school hours, Thuong also helps her adoptive parents with housework.
Little Tinh Thuong is a good and studious child, loved by neighbors, admired by teachers and respected by friends not only because she is gentle and cute, but also because she has an amazing academic record.
Currently, Thuong is studying in class 7A, Ly Nhat Quang Secondary School. For 7 consecutive years, she has been an excellent student, achieving excellent grades in all subjects. In particular, she has won many prizes in the district-level excellent student competition, the book storytelling competition, and the school-level excellent student competition from 2010 to 2012. In addition, Thuong also participated in the Math Olympiad, the English exchange competition in the district... and "won" many prizes for the school. Recently, Thuong participated in the district-level excellent student competition in grade 6, won second prize in Physics and brought pride to her family in particular and teachers in the school in general.
Ms. Vuong Thi Xoan, homeroom teacher of class 7A, Ly Nhat Quang Secondary School, shared: “Right from the first days of school, many teachers had a good impression of Thuong because of her gentle personality, attentive listening to lectures and studying very hard. She is also an exemplary class officer, taking the lead in class activities, getting along with friends, and studying all subjects well.”
Nguyen Thi Tinh Thuong is truly a shining example for her peers to learn from and follow.
