Girl goes to jail for pimpin' her sister into prostitution

On September 21, the Hanoi People's Court opened an appeal hearing to consider the appeal for sentence reduction of Tran Thi Sang (26 years old) when she was sentenced to 3 years in prison by the Dong Da District People's Court for the crime ofProstitution broker, Article 328, Penal Code 2015.

According to the first instance verdict, Sang had no stable job and was a single mother. One night in early December 2017, Sang received a text message from a young man she knew, mentioning that he and his friend wanted to buy sex. Sang agreed and offered a total price of 4 million VND.

She called her sister and agreed to "receive guests". The next afternoon, Sang and his sister met two guests. After collecting the money, the sister took one guest to a motel in Dong Da district. Sang and the other guest sat at a coffee shop waiting.

That day, while Sang's sister was "serving" the second customer, she was caught red-handed by Dong Da District Police.

Dong Da District People's Court sentenced Sang to 3 years in prison, assessing that the defendant's behavior had a negative impact on civilized lifestyle, destroyed human personality..., and was also the cause of many types of crimes and social evils.

However, the Hanoi People's Court today determined that the above sentence was somewhat harsh, so it reduced the sentence from 6 months to 2 years and 6 months.
