Girl who caused friend's death continues to be prosecuted
Truc has just been released on bail, but the investigation agency still maintains its stance of accusing her of driving a friend into a car and causing his death.
Cu Chi District Police (HCMC) has just completed the supplementary investigation conclusion and transferred the case file to the People's Procuracy to propose prosecuting Thach Thi Be Truc (23 years old) for the crime of violating regulations on driving road vehicles.
The investigation agency said that after the car accident, there were no brake marks left on the road surface, so there was not enough basis to determine the speed.
At the time of the accident, Truc suffered head and left leg injuries. When she woke up, she saw a fat man in a white shirt (later identified as Mr. Tung) sitting in the driver's seat. Mr. Tung then got off and borrowed a motorbike from a local to take the victim Ngoc (Truc's friend) to the emergency room.
During the further investigation, Mr. Tung stated that he was the owner of the car. On the day of the accident, he was one kilometer away when he was informed by driver Hoai - the person identified by the police as the driver of the car that caused the accident - so he went to the scene. Afraid that people would beat driver Hoai, he told him to stay away. A few days later, Mr. Hoai went to the police to report.
The investigation agency extracted Truc from detention, summoned witnesses for confrontation and clarified this content.

The investigation results determined that late on March 27, 2015, Truc was carrying a friend named Ngoc on a motorbike on rural road number 9, Tan Thong Hoi commune, Cu Chi district. At the Tran Van Cham intersection, Truc collided with a car driven by Mr. Hoai. Both fell onto the road, Ngoc died from a traumatic brain injury.
Truc was prosecuted and released on bail for violating regulations on road traffic control, with a penalty of 3-10 years in prison. However, in March 2016, after the People's Procuracy completed the indictment, she was temporarily detained despite raising two young children, one of whom was under 36 months old.
After three trials, the Cu Chi District People's Court temporarily postponed the case file and returned it to the same-level Procuracy, requesting an investigation to clarify the statements of the defendant Truc and the victim's family. That Mr. Tung was the one driving the car and driving at high speed.
After nearly a year in detention, on January 23, authorities changed the preventive measures to allow her to be released on bail while the case is being resolved./.
