CNN’s “From Ordinary People to Heroes” series features famous figures in world sports. And Duong Thuy Vi is the latest face chosen by CNN for this series. The “golden girl” of Vietnamese sports is the athlete who won the only gold medal for the Vietnamese team at the 17th Asian Games (Incheon, South Korea).

Responding to two American journalists Mathew Knight and Natasha Maguder, Thuy Vi said that she came to Wushu by chance. Since childhood, she never thought of becoming a Wushu athlete, and did not even have a concept of this sport. But one time, Thuy Vi's overweight cousin invited her to practice Wushu with him to... lose weight.

After that, Thuy Vi's cousin stopped practicing for two weeks. But Thuy Vi had a passion for this sport. Gradually, Wushu became an indispensable part of Thuy Vi's life.

CNN gave her many compliments: “Duong Thuy Vi is one of the stars of Vietnamese Wushu. She has won many championships at home and abroad in different Wushu events, especially helping the Vietnamese sports delegation win the gold medal at the 17th Asian Games. Thuy Vi has a small body, but don't underestimate this girl's ability!”

At only 20 years old, Thuy Vi still has many opportunities ahead. Her biggest goal in 2015 is to strive to win a gold medal at the World Championships in Jakarta in October. In addition, she aims to defend her title at the 28th SEA Games in June.
