(Baonghean.vn) - As one of 43 excellent managers of Nghe An province attending the first National Primary School Managers Exchange held in Hanoi at the end of March 2012, teacher Nguyen Thi Lan Huong always promotes talent and virtue, contributing to creating a new look for primary education in the mountainous areas of Nghe An province.
Born in 1965 in Nghia Dan district, teacher Nguyen Thi Lan Huong has devoted her life and career to Quy Chau land for 27 years, with 11 years in the classroom and 16 years in management. Chau Binh 1 Primary School, where she has spent the most time, currently has 18 classes (including 2 combined classes) with 382 students. Thai ethnic students account for 80%, students from poor households account for 75%, the people are mainly farmers so their economic life is difficult.
Teacher Nguyen Thi Lan Huong - Principal of Chau Binh 1 Primary School.
Teacher Huong shared: With the responsibility of a manager in the highlands, I have determined the role and position of the leader. I myself have always wondered how to improve the quality of teaching for students in the highlands, to build a primary school that meets national standards. There is no other way but to raise awareness and dedication of teachers. We must build a team of teachers with both "virtue" and "talent". Because if we want ethnic minority students to know how to read, write, and love going to school, we must love our students, treat them as our own children, and must be persistent, hard-working, and endure hardships. That is the "heart" of a teacher.
The exemplary and pioneering spirit of the principal has met with the consensus of the teachers in the school. All activities of the school originate from the dedication and devotion of the teaching staff. Many teachers have voluntarily bought plastic bags to cover books for students, bought pens and rulers for them, many teachers have washed and cut their hair, sewn on buttons, donated clothes and rice for poor students... Many teachers have traveled to each student's house, bought books and clothes for them, and brought rice to encourage them to go to school. In addition to building a network of coordination between the village chief - parents - school, building interactive lessons between teachers and students also creates a friendly, positive and gentle learning environment for students to have the opportunity to express their opinions, creating excitement in class, helping them to be bold and confident.
Ethnic minority students in mountainous areas are very weak in Vietnamese, their pronunciation is not standard, their communication skills are poor, their vocabulary is limited, they often make spelling mistakes, leading to poor performance in both literature and math. This is where the school's voluntary extra classes were born. At first, they only taught one or two sessions, then teachers volunteered to teach all week. Many students live 3 to 4 kilometers away from school, so they had to bring rice to eat lunch. The school's union organized a "Warm Meal" with voluntary donations from teachers to buy instant noodles or cook extra food for the students, buy lunch boxes for the students to keep their rice warm, and assign teachers to be on duty at noon to manage the students. These are simple things that the teachers and the school have done to gain the affection of parents, and parents trust and feel secure in sending their children to study all day.
Expressing their gratitude to the school, teachers, and parents who responded to the socialization of education with practical actions. Every time preparing for the new school year, or for school activities, parents spend thousands of working days voluntarily participating in building the school. With the characteristics of a poor mountainous district, the school has received the attention and support of the local government to advise on many school construction projects such as the 135 program, the TF program, and the Belgian project program... With the attention of the district and the education department, the school's facilities are now relatively spacious, with relatively adequate teaching equipment; there are 2 computer labs, and all functional rooms. That is one of the standards that the school is striving to build a national standard school level 2.
There are many typical examples of teachers who diligently teach weak students and train good students. In the 2009-2010 school year, Nguyen Duy Truong participated in the "good speech, beautiful handwriting" competition and won first prize at the provincial level. In the 2010-2011 school year, 31 students won prizes in the district-level online math competition and 20 students won prizes in the math competition for children, 4 students won prizes in the district-level English OLYMPIC competition, 7 students were recognized in the district-level English OLYMPIC competition and 2 students were recognized at the provincial level. From the 2006-2007 school year to the 2010-2011 school year, the school was recognized as an excellent labor collective. In the 2008-2009 school year, the school was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Ministry of Education and Training. Teacher Nguyen Thi Lan Huong, the school's principal, always achieved the title of emulation fighter at the grassroots level; 2008-2009 school year received a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training.
Ms. Huong said: Innovation in educational management not only innovates the way the school board works but also requires innovation from the staff, teachers, employees, professional groups and organizations in the school. Educational management is not only about managing people but more importantly, managing work, managing plans, finding mechanisms, methods and management approaches to promote the capabilities of each individual and each department to create a combined strength for development.
