(Baonghean) - Children in Van hamlet, Nghia Thang, Nghia Dan, have always had interrupted education, rarely finishing secondary school because of the extreme poverty. Seemingly "absorbing" the poverty and hardship, Lo Thi Tinh, Thanh ethnic group (class 9E, Lien Thang Secondary School, Nghia Thang) has overcome everything, creating a "miracle" in the poor hamlet: For many consecutive years, she has been an excellent student of the district and province; is an active union cadre, the core of the school's arts; won the A prize in the "Nghe Tinh Folk Songs and Songs Contest for Secondary School Students in 2014" for the whole province.

Tinh’s family situation was very difficult. Tinh was the eldest of three children; the second brother was often sick, the youngest was just over 2 years old. To earn money to send his children to school, his father worked as a construction worker everywhere, while his mother took care of the children and worked for hire; whatever people hired her to do in the commune, from planting, harvesting, weeding…

Born into a poor family, little Lo Thi Tinh grew up with “full meals, hungry meals”, so from a young age she had to help her parents with housework and take care of her younger siblings. In her family’s small house, perhaps the greatest asset is the certificates of merit of the eldest daughter, which her father hung solemnly on the wall. Tinh’s house is quite far from the commune center, so to get to school, she has to walk nearly ten kilometers on dirt roads. During the rainy season, the water from the small stream at the beginning of the village rises to a white blanket, so few children in Van village attend school regularly.

However, those difficulties could not stop Tinh's determination to go to school. Because for that little student from the poor countryside, "only by learning to read and write can we be less poor and less miserable in the future, and help our parents take care of our younger siblings." On sunny days as well as rainy days, Tinh always diligently goes to school. Because she is afraid that if she misses classes, she will not learn more good essays or difficult math problems. The road to school is quite far, so she always has to wake up very early to cycle to class. On rainy days, when Tinh gets to class, her clothes are soaked, her hands and feet are covered in mud. Loving her good student, the teachers in the school often donate old clothes and books to help her reduce her poverty.

Tinh has a special talent for literature. Passionate about literature, she always carries reference books and good literature books lent to her by her teachers and reads them during recess at school, or while watching her younger siblings at home... Tinh shared: "I often copy famous quotes, good and meaningful words I read from documents, or "pick up" from my teacher's lectures into a notebook. Whenever I have free time, I take them out to read to supplement and enrich my vocabulary for each essay."

Head teacher Hoang Thi Thanh Thuy commented on her "favorite" student: "Tinh has a sense of self-study, reads and writes diligently. Thanks to that, her writing is always coherent, her ideas are clear and well-organized. Each of her writings carries her true feelings and thoughts with logical thinking, and her writing style is simple and straightforward. During her 3 years in middle school, she was awarded the title of excellent student in the district in Literature, and in grade 9, she also won the third prize in Literature at the provincial level."

Not only is Tinh excellent in literature, an excellent student for many years, and an exemplary class monitor, he is also an active "artist" of the school. In any movement of the school or class, especially the art movement, Tinh always enthusiastically participates. Last school year, in the provincial "Folk song singing contest for secondary school students in 2014", he conquered the judges, winning the A prize with the tune "Father and son love".
