Opportunity for Dien Chau shrimp to go far
(Baonghean.vn) - Peeled shrimp, a product of the seafood processing village in Dien Chau, has been recognized as a collective trademark; this is an opportunity for the village to affirm its quality and reach out to the market.
Shrimp production is a traditional profession that has existed for decades, associated with the seafaring life of fishermen in Dien Bich and Dien Ngoc communes (Dien Chau), creating jobs for hundreds of workers; contributing to improving the economic efficiency of shrimp for fishermen in the district.

Dien Chau peeled shrimp is favored by consumers because of its quality, nutritional value, color, and taste. However, for a long time, peeled shrimp products have only been limited to domestic markets, while in more distant markets, consumers are still hesitant because they do not know the production area as well as the reliability of the product quality.
Recognizing the difficulties in market development as well as creating stable output for the local shrimp exploitation industry, in 2016, the Dien Chau Shrimp Production and Trading Association was established with 30 members; after production, the establishments will have people to purchase, package and consume.

After 1 year of establishment of the Association, the output of peeled shrimp exported to the market has increased significantly with 30 tons/year, revenue of 230 billion VND. However, due to the lack of appropriate labels and packaging, the product still has difficulty competing in the market. Therefore, the construction of the Dien Chau peeled shrimp collective brand has always been invested in and perfected by the crafting households and the authorities at all levels.
In October 2017, joy came to Dien Chau shrimp production and trading households when the Intellectual Property Office granted the Certificate of Registration of Collective Trademark "Dien Chau Shrimp", along with specific operating regulations.
Members participating in production under the Dien Chau shrimp collective brand will have their awareness of laws such as Intellectual Property, Commercial Law, Ordinance on Food Safety and Hygiene, Law on Environmental Protection as well as technical knowledge of shrimp production to ensure higher quality so that the products can reach further than the domestic market and aim for foreign export.

According to Mr. Le Minh Tuan - Chairman of Dien Chau Shrimp Production and Business Association, to preserve the product brand, members like us must try our best to produce shrimp that is both clean, of good quality and 100% fresh. This not only increases income and improves the lives of coastal people but also plays an important role in preserving and promoting the traditional profession of Dien Chau.
