With "golden rain", Nghe An farmers are excited to "save rice"
(Baonghean.vn) - The "golden rain" on the evening of July 7 helped cool down the hot days in Nghe An. On the morning of July 8, people gathered in the fields to save rice.
On the morning of July 8, at the fields of Hung Yen Bac commune - the driest place in Hung Nguyen district, the image of dry, cracked fields was no longer there, but instead, the greenness of flooded fields was emerging.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Chau in Hamlet 3A, Hung Yen Bac could not hide her joy: I couldn't sleep all night, I just wished for morning to come quickly so I could go to the fields to save the rice. Luckily it rained, if it had been sunny for a few more days, my family's 6 sao of rice field would have been completely lost...

According to the reporter's observation, after the rain, the water level in the fields in Hung Nguyen district was almost half-submerged. However, according to the farmers, the low-lying fields and those near the ditches "benefited" the most from the rain, while the high-lying fields still had to wait for more rain because the amount of water was only enough to wet the soil.
However, more than 1,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice in the drought-stricken Hung Nguyen region have temporarily escaped the state of "slowing to death" every day.The two-hour rain also helped the dams in Nghi Van - Nghi Loc commune escape the situation of having their bottoms exposed, even though the amount of water accumulated was not much.
Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Vice Chairman of Nghi Van Commune People's Committee shared: The relatively heavy rain from 6:00 to 8:00 pm last night helped cover 593 hectares of summer-autumn rice in the commune, no longer experiencing the phenomenon of "burning". As for 19 dams, they have basically escaped the situation of dry bottoms, hopefully there will be rain in the coming days so that the dams will be able to store water to serve the fields.

The rain has helped 5,500 hectares of rice in Nghi Loc escape the burning and about 2,000 hectares of unplanted summer-autumn rice are likely to revive. Currently, the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is focusing on directing people to build dikes to retain water, while pruning and fertilizing in the hope that the rice will grow normally again.
In Do Luong, after many hot days, the rain from late afternoon until nearly 11pm created a cool atmosphere after days of record sunshine. Heavy rain has saved 1,000 hectares of summer-autumn rice in Do Luong district, especially in communes facing severe drought such as: My Son 100 hectares, Dai Son 80 hectares, Hien Son 60 hectares...However, in some individual communes, the rain only lasted about an hour, and the water could not seep deep into the ground.
