Con Cuong: Suspending the operation of 13 sawmills without business licenses

(Baonghean.vn) - Implementing the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the field of forest protection and forest product management, Con Cuong District Forest Protection Department has strengthened inspection and handling of violations of sawmills in the area.

From the end of December 2012 to mid-March 2013, Con Cuong Forest Protection Department coordinated with local authorities to inspect all 73 sawmills in the district. Through the inspection, 63 sawmills were discovered and handled for violating legal regulations, with fines totaling over 136 million VND.

Common violations of sawmills in Con Cuong area are mainly not fully complying with legal procedures; not managing sawing activities and storing wood of unknown origin. Con Cuong Forest Protection Department has issued orders to suspend the operation of 13 sawmills without business licenses, at the same time detecting and handling 14 cases, confiscating nearly 8.5m3 of various types of wood and many vehicles transporting illegal wood.

In 2012, Con Cuong Forest Protection Department discovered and handled 36 violations of illegal exploitation and transportation of forest products, confiscated 79m3 of wood, and imposed fines of over 653 million VND to the state budget.
