According to historical records, in 1335, Emperor Tran Minh Tong personally led troops into the Nam Nhung hamlet (ie the western part of Nghe An) to suppress the Ai Lao rebels and keep the border peaceful. When he won the battle, Tran Minh Tong assigned the Royal Doctor Nguyen Trung Ngan to have his soldiers smooth the rock wall on Thanh Nam mountain, in Tuong Duong land (now Chi Khe commune, Con Cuong) to carve a stele recording the achievements of the Tran Dynasty and called "Ma Nhai Ky Cong Bi Van" (Ma Nhai stele). After nearly 700 years of history, the ancient characters are still intact. Recently, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a decision to recognize Ma Nhai Stele as a National Historical-Cultural Relic.
