'The Road of Happiness' in the mountainous region of Huoi Co

Early morning, the fog was thick but all over the corn fields and high-yield cassava fields in Huoi Co, the working atmosphere was very bustling. The village chief, a party member Khua Do, just took me around the village, telling me about the difficulties to achieve today's change.

Before 2012, the road to the village was very difficult. The Party Committee and the village management board worried, discussed and surveyed the road from Xoi Voi to Huoi Co, more than 3km long. After that, the village mobilized the people to build the road.

“It was very difficult! There were more rocks than dirt; steep slopes and towering mountains, but the road gradually took shape. Nhon Mai commune and then Tuong Duong district mobilized machinery and manpower to join hands with the villagers to build the road in 2014 and 2016. As a result, the road became wider, more complete and easier to travel on,” said Khua Do village chief.

Like many other families in Huoi Co, Va No Tua's family used to have a very difficult life! The cassava and corn harvests were only enough to fill the warehouse season after season; termites and weevils had to be thrown away. It was difficult to bring livestock and poultry to the commune to sell.

Therefore, when the policy of building inter-village roads was implemented by the Party Committee and the management board of Huoi Co village, his family was one of the pioneers, ready to accept and complete the most difficult rocky mountain roads.

When the road was built, although it was not beautiful or easy to travel, it was much more convenient than the old road. His family tried their best to find a way to escape poverty.

“We learned from households in neighboring villages to develop livestock and grow crops for commercial purposes. In 2015, our family escaped poverty,” Tua shared.

The newly opened road and more convenient trade have helped the villagers' lives gradually become more prosperous, the number of poor households has decreased year after year; children can go to school with dreams in each letter, currently the whole village has 11 children studying at vocational schools. In particular, in the village there is no longer a situation of incestuous marriage or free migration.

Previously, the whole village had 40/42 poor households, but now the number has decreased to over 30 households. The whole village has over 200 buffaloes and cows; the number of households with means of transport and audio-visual equipment has reached 90%. Indeed, people often compare the road from Xoi Voi to Huoi Co as "the road of happiness".

Many spacious houses are being built in Hoi Co.

The commune requests that superiors pay more attention to building a concrete road to ensure that the road to the village is always clear and more and more convenient."
