Minh found ways to expand the drug trafficking line for Dung through acquaintances. From the initial deals, this couple gradually formed a drug trafficking line from Laos to Vietnam, through unofficial channels. In 2007, to avoid suspicion from the authorities and also to facilitate the business, Dung discussed with Minh to let Minh go to Vinh city to study at university. And after each week of studying in Vinh and returning home to visit, when taking the bus back to the city, Minh often carried drugs with him, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the "partner" who wanted to order. Not staying in a dormitory like many other students, Minh rented a house in Vinh. In the room with a rather normal appearance were expensive, luxurious appliances and equipment. After successful shipments, the couple Dung and Minh organized lavish trips to famous places in and outside the country. Blinded by money, Minh also invited his younger brother, Lu Cao Thuong, born in 1986, to join this crime ring. For a long time, the two sisters Minh and Thuong received money from Dung, colluded with many cross-border drug traffickers such as Vi Thi Thuan, Vi Thi Det... then bought, sold and transported many shipments for Nguyen Anh Dung. However, Minh did not know that the criminal acts of the drug trafficking ring he participated in had been exposed. This drug trafficking ring was discovered thanks to valuable information from the highly vigilant public. Immediately, the anti-drug police force of Nghe An Public Security discovered an important clue. In early February 2011, a project to eliminate this ring was established by the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department - Nghe An Public Security.
On the morning of May 1, 2011, information about a man and woman transporting drugs on a motorbike with license plate 37Z8 - 1550 moving from Tuong Duong to Vinh City was sent to the police. The Drug Crime Prevention Police of Nghe An Police coordinated with the Traffic Patrol Team 1/7 (under the Nghe An Road and Railway Traffic Police Department) and the Drug Prevention Task Force No. 2 of the Coast Guard to immediately deploy a formation to intercept and arrest them. At 9:20, when the two suspects were traveling through Hamlet 8, Long Son Commune (Anh Son District), the working group asked them to stop their vehicle for inspection. Lu Thi Minh (28 years old) and Lu Cao Thuong (26 years old, Minh's younger brother), residing in Tam Bong Village, Tam Quang Commune (Tuong Duong District) were arrested along with the evidence of 3 cakes of drugs and 82 million VND in cash neatly placed in a briefcase on the vehicle. At the investigation agency, Minh confessed: At around 8:00 a.m. on April 30, Minh received a phone call from Dung asking him to transport heroin from Tuong Duong to Vinh City for a fee of 82 million VND. After that, Minh invited his younger brother to ride a motorbike to Xop Mat area, Luong Minh commune (Tuong Duong) to get the goods. At around 4:00 a.m. on May 1, after getting the goods from an acquaintance, both subjects decided to use a motorbike to transport heroin to Vinh City and were arrested. At 11:00 p.m. on the same day, the police expanded the investigation and arrested Vi Thi Det, also known as Sen - Minh's accomplice - from the same hometown, specializing in this line of business.
As for Dung, after hearing the noise, he fled.
On March 23, 2012, Lu Thi Minh was sentenced to death by the Nghe An Provincial Court for illegal drug trafficking. Lu Cao Thuong and his accomplices Kha Van Thuc and Vi Thi Det were sentenced to life in prison. Another drug dealer, Lo Van Xao, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the same crime.
