Third hostage beheaded by IS

The extremist organization Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (IS) has just released a video showing the beheading of British hostage David Haines, Reuters reported.

Reuters could not verify the content of the tape, but the images in it resemble the execution of two American journalists, James Foley and Steven Sotloff, in August.

Haines, a 44-year-old aid worker and father of two from Perth, Scotland, was kidnapped last year while working for the French firm ACTED.

The video, titled "A Message to America's Allies," opens with British Prime Minister David Cameron talking about working with the Iraqi government and Kurdish Peshmerga forces in efforts to defeat IS.

“This Briton will pay the price for your statement, Cameron, that he will arm the Peshmerga against the Islamic State,” the masked figure in black said in a British accent. The victim was then beheaded, kneeling and wearing an orange jumpsuit.

At the end of the video, another hostage is revealed and the perpetrator claims that this person will also be killed if Prime Minister Cameron continues to support the fight against IS.

After the video was released, Mr Cameron condemned the murder and vowed to do everything to bring the perpetrators to justice. He also sent his condolences to David Haines' family.

In Washington, White House National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden had no comment on the video, referring questions to the British government.

The US resumed air strikes in Iraq in August, the first time since withdrawing troops from the Gulf country in 2011. The decision was made after IS gained ground and declared an Islamic caliphate in areas it had captured in Iraq and Syria.
