Al-Qaeda released an audio message, believed to be from Hamza Bin Laden, son of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden, calling on supporters to attack the US and its allies.

In a message shared on Twitter, Hamza bin Laden called on supporters in Kabul, Baghdad and Gaza to attack Washington, London, Paris and Tel Aviv.

According to the BBC, this is the first time al-Qaeda has publicly announced Hamza Bin Laden as an official member of the group.

Osama bin Laden, the al-Qaeda leader behind the 9/11 attacks, was killed by US special forces in 2011 during a raid on his compound in Abbotabad, Pakistan. Letters found in the compound indicated that bin Laden had wanted to groom Hamza to succeed him as al-Qaeda leader. However, after bin Laden's death, the position fell to Ayman al-Zawahiri, the group's second-in-command.

Hamza's whereabouts are unknown. He is believed to be around 23 or 24 years old. During the 2001 US-led military intervention in Afghanistan, Al-Jazeera aired footage showing him alongside Taliban fighters in the country.
