Police preliminary conclusion on the death of District Chairman
The police agency preliminarily concluded that the cause of death of the Chairman of Quoc Oai district was asphyxiation and suicide by hanging.
Hanoi police are continuing to investigate and clarify the case of the Chairman of Quoc Oai district who went missing and was found dead at his house in lane 279 Hoang Mai street (Hoang Van Thu ward, Hoang Mai district, Hanoi).
The Criminal Police Department coordinated with functional units and Hoang Mai District Police to conduct a crime scene investigation and autopsy. The results determined that the victim was Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam, Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the People's Committee of Quoc Oai District. The preliminary conclusion was that the cause of death was suffocation and suicide by hanging.

Previously, around noon on January 3, residents living around alley 279 Hoang Mai discovered a foul smell coming from a 5-story house at the beginning of the alley, so they reported it to the authorities.
After receiving the report, the police went to the scene and broke the lock of the iron folding door to get in. There, they discovered the decomposed body of a middle-aged man, who had died hanging. There were also many personal items at the scene.
At 2:00 p.m. the same day, the police blocked off the area of lane 279 and secured the scene to facilitate the investigation. Initial investigations determined that the victim had died about a week earlier and had many identifying features similar to Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quoc Oai District (Hanoi), who had been reported missing earlier.
At around 4 p.m., some of Mr. Lam's family members arrived at the scene to identify the body.
After an urgent investigation, autopsy and identification of the victim by the family, Hanoi City Police determined that the body of the middle-aged man who died in the house above was Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quoc Oai District. This is Mr. Lam's newly purchased private house.
The incident is still under investigation by the police.
