Announcing the list of 63 outstanding Vietnamese farmers in 2016

The list of 63 outstanding Vietnamese farmers in 2016 has just been officially announced. These are 63 outstanding farmers representing 63 provinces and cities across the country. Nghe An has Mr. Dang Anh Tuan (born in 1957), in hamlet 7, Xuan Son commune, Do Luong district.

This information was just announced at the press conference “Announcing the list of 63 outstanding Vietnamese farmers and the live TV program “Pride of Vietnamese Farmers 2016”; Award Ceremony of the 3rd Writing Contest “Pride of Vietnamese Farmers” (2015 - 2016) and Announcing the 1st Vietnam Farmers Forum 2016: Global Farmers – from thinking to action” organized by Nong Thon Ngay Nay Newspaper, in Hanoi.

Ms. Nguyen Hong Ly - Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Pride of Vietnamese Farmers program said that in this year's voting, 63 provinces and cities sent profiles of 133 candidates. Through a careful evaluation and research process, the organizing committee found 63 most promising candidates to be on the list worthy of receiving the title "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer of 2016".

Ms. Ly said that the final selection council consists of 10 members from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Central Propaganda Department, Vietnam Television and the Today's Rural Newspaper.

According to Vice Chairman Nguyen Hong Ly, of the 63 outstanding farmers in 2016, 49 were male and 14 were female. The oldest was Mr. Nguyen Van Sang (66 years old) (No. 18, Do Chieu, Area 4, Ward 1, Vi Thanh City, Hau Giang Province); the youngest was Mr. Truong Van Phuc, 32 years old, in Hamlet 2, Tan Tay Commune, Go Cong Dong District, Tien Giang Province. There were 5 outstanding farmers who were ethnic minorities.

“Accordingly, 24 outstanding Vietnamese farmers in 2016 will be honored to receive Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister. The remaining people will receive Certificates of Merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union. The solemn award ceremony with the presence of the highest leaders of the Party and State and a special art program will be broadcast live from the Hanoi Opera House on the evening of October 14 - exactly on the 86th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Farmers' Union", Ms. Ly emphasized.


According to the criteria of the Organizing Committee, there are 4 groups of typical farmers selected, including: Farmers with outstanding achievements in production and business of agricultural products (cultivation, livestock, aquaculture, forestry, agricultural services); farmers with outstanding achievements in the new rural construction movement; farmers with outstanding achievements in the movement of All people protecting national security and national sovereignty; farmers with scientific initiatives and inventions that have been applied and brought high economic and social efficiency in agricultural production activities.

The organizers also said that, unlike previous programs, this year for the first time the Program organized a delegation of "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmers" from previous years to visit and study high-tech agricultural models in Korea. The trip took place from September 28 to October 4. During the 7 days in Korea, the delegation visited many livestock and crop farms, agricultural production research institutes, and learned about the potential opportunities of the Korean agricultural market.


On the other hand, for the first time within the framework of the Program, on October 16, the organizing committee will hold the first Vietnam Farmers Forum 2016 with the theme: "Global Farmers - from thinking to action".

The forum is expected to have more than 250 delegates, including outstanding farmers, experts, managers, leading scientists in agriculture, rural areas, and farmers at home and abroad, focusing on exchanging and discussing solutions to overcome difficulties. Thereby, proposing solutions to improve competitiveness for farmers, restructure agriculture, and build new rural areas in the context of Vietnam's increasingly deep integration with the region and the world...
