Announcing the minimum number of textbooks for primary school students.
In the 2013-2014 school year, students in grades 1, 2, and 3 used a minimum of 6 textbooks, while students in grades 4 and 5 used 9.
The minimum textbooks for students in grades 1, 2, and 3 are: Vietnamese (volumes 1 and 2), handwriting practice notebooks (volumes 1 and 2), Mathematics, and Social Studies.
For students in grades 4 and 5, the minimum required textbooks include: Vietnamese (volumes 1 and 2), Mathematics, Ethics, Science, History and Geography, Music, Art, and Technology.
The Ministry of Education and Training requires primary schools to establish shared libraries, ensuring that all students have textbooks for their studies right from the start of the new school year.
Teachers need to guide students on how to use books and notebooks daily so that they don't have to carry too many books to school; and to make effective use of books and materials in the school library. Where conditions permit, students should be allowed to leave their books and learning materials in the classroom.
The Ministry requires provincial Departments of Education and Training to mobilize funding to provide textbooks free of charge to students in particularly disadvantaged areas, and students who are children of martyrs or war invalids.
