(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 16, the Provincial People's Committee held a ceremony to announce Vietnam Science and Technology Day (May 18) and open the Nghe An Technology and Equipment Fair 2014.

Attending the event were comrades: Ho Ngoc Luat - Director of the Department of Local Science and Technology Development (Ministry of Science and Technology); Huynh Thanh Dien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, along with representatives of departments, branches and many managers and scientists in the province.

Comrade Huynh Thanh Dien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, acknowledged the contributions of the province's science and technology sector.

On May 18, 1963, the first Congress of the Vietnam Association for the Dissemination of Science and Technology took place. In 2013, the National Assembly decided to choose May 18 as Vietnam Science and Technology Day. This is a day for society to pay attention to, acknowledge and honor the contributions of scientists. At the same time, it arouses passion, encourages scientific research activities, technology development, and promotes the movement to promote initiatives and technical improvements to all classes of people. Vietnam Science and Technology Day 2014 has the theme "Science and Technology - the driving force for rapid and sustainable development".

In recent years, Science and Technology has made important contributions, promoting the comprehensive and stable development of agricultural, forestry and fishery production in the province. In industry, there have been many applications of scientific and technological advances, innovation of equipment and technology, and registration of industrial property rights to improve product competitiveness. Information technology is widely applied in all levels, sectors, enterprises and the whole society... Research and application of science and technology, communication activities are promoted in the direction of increasing professionalism.

Up to now, the province has 6 universities, 8 colleges, 2 research institutes with many centers and research rooms. The whole province has 1,759 staff with master's degrees or higher, of which 355 are professors, associate professors, doctors... Implementing Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the direction and tasks of socio-economic development of the province, science and technology activities will focus on the main contents: Prioritizing applied research, transferring technologies to create breakthroughs in productivity, quality, and efficiency in each industry and field; developing science and technology potential in agencies and units; continuing to comprehensively innovate management mechanisms and science and technology activities...

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Huynh Thanh Dien acknowledged and highly appreciated the results that the science and technology sector has achieved in recent times. This is a great driving force, contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of the locality, especially in the field of application and transfer of scientific and technological advances in agricultural production to enhance the value and brand of the province's goods, and improve the lives of the people.

Comrade Huynh Thanh Dien awarded certificates of merit to 3 enterprises winning the National Quality Award in 2013.

Delegates contribute to support Coast Guard and Fisheries Surveillance soldiers on duty in Hoang Sa archipelago.

On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee awarded commemorative medals to 77 individuals with achievements contributing to the province's science and technology activities, and honored 20 scientists and managers with many contributions to the science and technology activities of Nghe An. The Provincial People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 3 enterprises that won the National Quality Award in 2013, including TH Dairy Food Joint Stock Company, 479 Joint Stock Company and 482 Joint Stock Company.

At the ceremony, delegates cut the ribbon to open the 2014 Technology and Equipment Fair. The fair gathered 90 booths covering the fields of industry, agriculture, health, etc. The fair took place for 3 days from May 16-18 at the Nghe An Province Cultural and Information Center, 45 Ho Tung Mau, Vinh City. On this occasion, the Organizing Committee launched a fundraising campaign to support the Coast Guard and Fisheries Surveillance soldiers who are performing their duties in the Hoang Sa archipelago./.
