Announcement of the Decision to Establish Nghe An University
On the afternoon of April 21st, Nghe An University held a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's decision on the merger of Nghe An Teacher Training College into Nghe An University of Economics and the renaming of the college to Nghe An University.
Also attending were comrades: Phan Chí Hiếu – President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council.
Representing Nghe An province were members of the Provincial Party Committee: Bui Dinh Long – Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Pham Tuan Vinh – Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee; Thai Van Thanh – Director of the Department of Education and Training; representatives from various departments, agencies, universities, colleges, and a large number of former and current leaders and lecturers of the school.
At the ceremony, on behalf of the Prime Minister, Mr. Bui Dinh Long, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, presented Decision No. 1653/QD-TTg dated December 26, 2024, of the Prime Minister on the merger of Nghe An Teacher Training College into Nghe An University of Economics and the renaming of Nghe An University of Economics.Nghe An UniversityDirectly under the People's Committee of Nghe An province.
The decision to merge and rename the school is a historic event for the institution, reflecting the strategic vision and strong innovative thinking of the Party, the Government, and Nghe An province in fundamentally and comprehensively reforming education and training.
At the same time, we will streamline administrative structures, improve governance capacity and training quality, aiming to build sustainable higher education institutions with strong brands and positions in the region, serving the socio-economic development, especially in the North Central region.
Also on this occasion, Nghe An University announced important decisions regarding the university's personnel.
Accordingly, Comrade Nguyen Ngoc Hieu – former Rector of Nghe An University of Economics – has been appointed as Rector of Nghe An University. Comrade Nguyen Dinh Tuong – former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nghe An University of Economics – has been appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nghe An University.
Comrades Truong Quang Ngan, Tran Anh Tu, and Dam Thi Ngoc Nga have been appointed as Vice Rectors of Nghe An University. In the coming time, departments, faculties, centers, and affiliated and subordinate units will continue to be restructured to conform to a modern, streamlined, and efficient university governance model, meeting the development requirements of the new phase.
Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Bui Dinh Long congratulated the Nghe An University on entering a new historical phase. He also affirmed that the establishment of the university is in line with the current new development trends, during a period of national transformation.
In particular, as Nghe An is implementing Resolution No. 39 of the Politburo on the development of Nghe An province until 2045, with the goal of developing Nghe An's education sector into a leading force and a regional education center, universities are required to change their models and supplement their planning to meet this standard.
The merger of Nghe An University of Economics and Nghe An College of Education aims to create new momentum in a new historical phase, in the era of "Nghe An rising together with the whole nation". During the implementation process, provincial leaders acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts and cooperation of the two institutions in developing and completing the merger plan and submitting it to the Prime Minister for approval to establish Nghe An University.
In order for Nghe An University to continuously advance and become a shining example of educational quality, scientific research, and innovation, contributing to the development of Nghe An province and the country, Comrade Bui Dinh Long requested the Party Committee, the Board of Directors, and the University Council to quickly finalize the university's operational regulations. These are important regulations for all leaders and staff of the university to follow.
During the implementation process, it is necessary to do a good job in political and ideological work, creating high unity and consensus throughout the school, spreading belief and responsibility towards the mission of training high-quality human resources for the province and the region; and to ensure that the school's activities are not interrupted.
In addition, it is urgent to supplement and develop a development strategy that is linked to practical needs, closely connecting the State - Schools - Businesses, and promoting training in key professions serving the development of high-tech industries and agriculture.
Simultaneously, it is necessary to focus all resources on building a multidisciplinary, multi-vocational, multi-field, multi-level university; quickly identify key priorities and flagship programs to create a brand for the university; develop a strategy to attract, train, and improve the qualifications of the teaching staff; strengthen international cooperation, scientific research, and linkages with institutes and universities both domestically and abroad.
At the ceremony, Comrade Bui Dinh Long also requested that departments, agencies, localities, universities, businesses, etc., continue to cooperate with and support the school, contributing their efforts to ensure its sustainable development and making it a symbol of intellect, innovation, and integration.
Speaking at the merger, renaming, and assignment ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Hieu, Rector of Nghe An University, affirmed that the merger of the two units will provide the university with additional staff, students, and physical resources, contributing to the completion of the multidisciplinary university model and better serving the needs of society.
This is also an opportunity for the university to undergo comprehensive reforms, aiming to become a prestigious university in the ASEAN region by 2035. With a spirit of unity, innovation, integration, and development, Nghe An University is determined to leverage its strengths, innovate, and build a high-quality, substantive educational ecosystem, pioneering in training human resources to serve regional and national development.
