To proactively prevent the A/H5N6 flu virus and other strains of avian influenza virus, minimize the spread and death of influenza to humans, affect public health, and minimize economic losses to the livestock industry, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has just sent an urgent dispatch requesting departments and localities to strengthen measures to prevent and control this flu epidemic.

The content of the dispatch clearly stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requested the Chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to pay attention to and direct the implementation of measures to prevent avian influenza in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister on focusing on preventing avian influenza and avian influenza viruses from spreading to humans.

Accordingly, localities focus on organizing the fight and effectively preventing the illegal transportation of poultry across the border to prevent the spread of avian influenza virus into the country.

On the other hand, localities need to strictly implement quarantine at the source, strictly control the transportation and trade of poultry and poultry products in the area, and strictly handle violations.

In addition, localities need to step up propaganda work, warn people about the harmful effects and dangers of avian influenza virus, and encourage people to report outbreaks when they discover sick or unusually dead poultry.

In particular, localities need to clearly state that it is strictly forbidden to hide the epidemic, sell sick poultry to spread the epidemic and not trade poultry and poultry products of unknown origin, not yet undergone veterinary quarantine, and at the same time carry out well the work of sanitation and disinfection in livestock farming, focusing on areas at high risk of avian influenza outbreaks (poultry farming areas, trading markets, poultry collection points, poultry hatcheries and poultry slaughterhouses, etc.).

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam also requested that grassroots units need to strengthen clinical surveillance and proactive sampling of avian influenza viruses and the environment at live poultry markets, on smuggled poultry, and in high-risk areas to promptly detect outbreaks and circulating viruses for timely handling, preventing widespread spread and transmission of influenza viruses to humans.

“On the other hand, localities with outbreaks need to thoroughly destroy poultry flocks that test positive for the influenza virus according to the instructions of veterinary management agencies,” Deputy Minister Vu Van Tam emphasized./.
