Telegram to strengthen the fight against smuggling and trade fraud

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc - Head of the National Steering Committee against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods - has just issued an official dispatch on strengthening the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods during the 2015 Lunar New Year.

The telegram stated that in order to effectively carry out the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods during the Lunar New Year 2015, the Head of the National Steering Committee against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods requested the Ministries of National Defense, Public Security, Finance, Industry and Trade, Agriculture and Rural Development, Health, Transport, Science and Technology, Information and Communications, Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Chairmen of the People's Committees of the provinces and centrally-run cities to focus on directing the good implementation of the following tasks:

Evidence seized in the newly discovered counterfeit goods production case in Quang Ninh.

Regularly patrol, inspect and control at border gates, border areas, wholesale markets, especially the northern and southwestern border routes, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to promptly detect and strictly handle smugglers and transporters of contraband goods, especially goods in high demand during Tet such as cigarettes, alcohol, beer, confectionery, fruits, food, livestock and poultry (especially poultry from areas with flu epidemics); strengthen inspection and quarantine, ensure the quality of goods and food hygiene and safety.

Strictly implement information and reporting regimes, ensure accuracy, timeliness, and proactively share information between authorities and localities to grasp the situation, promptly detect smuggling methods and tricks, especially masterminds and ringleaders.

Strengthen inspection and public service inspection work to prevent, detect and promptly handle negative behaviors, connivance and abetting of smuggling and trade fraud activities.

The Head of the National Steering Committee against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods requested Vietnam Television, Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam News Agency and press agencies to continue to promote propaganda work so that people are clearly aware of the harmful effects of smuggled goods, counterfeit goods, and goods that do not ensure food hygiene and safety, and to encourage people to "say no to smuggled goods" and respond to the campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods."

The telegram also requests Ministers, heads of ministerial-level agencies, and Chairmen of People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to immediately direct the implementation of the contents of this telegram.

The Standing Office of the National Steering Committee against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods coordinates with ministries, agencies and localities to urge and summarize the implementation results of the Official Dispatch and report to the Prime Minister in March 2015.
