Vietnamese community in Egypt looks towards homeland islands

On May 24, the Vietnamese community studying, working, doing business and living in Egypt, along with some local friends, attended a rally protesting China's aggressive actions in the East Sea.

Representatives of Vietnamese students in Egypt read a letter of determination expressing their trust in the Party's policies and leadership in the struggle to protect Vietnam's sovereignty over its seas and islands.

Speaking at the rally, Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt Dao Thanh Chung informed the people about the latest developments in the East Sea, especially China's illegal placement of the Haiyang Shiyou-981 drilling rig in the 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone, seriously violating Vietnam's sovereignty and national jurisdiction.

China's aggressive actions have seriously violated international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and agreements with ASEAN on resolving issues in the East Sea, threatening peace, stability, freedom of navigation and aviation in the region, while also losing trust and affecting the sentiments of the Vietnamese people.

Ambassador Dao Thanh Chung informed the people about the measures of struggle and response of the Vietnamese Party and State to China's arrogant actions; the massive marches and rallies of the majority of Vietnamese people both at home and abroad, as well as public opinion from countries around the world supporting the struggle of the Vietnamese people and condemning China's arrogant actions, demanding that China immediately withdraw the drilling rig and all illegal escort vessels from Vietnam's waters.

The Ambassador emphasized the consistent policy and stance of the Party and State of Vietnam to take all measures to resolutely fight to protect national sovereignty, while persistently maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for national development. On this occasion, the Ambassador asked the people to join hands and take concrete actions to contribute to the just struggle of the Vietnamese people to protect the sovereignty of the homeland's seas and islands against China's plots and actions to monopolize the East Sea.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese community in Egypt signed a letter of determination to express solidarity with compatriots in the country, especially the Vietnamese law enforcement forces on duty in the East Sea, and pledged to always be ready when the Fatherland needs. Members of the Vietnamese family in Egypt also affirmed their absolute trust in the guidelines, policies and strategies of the Party and State, especially in resolving disputes in the East Sea.
