Public list of 17 enterprises violating food safety

Of the 17 establishments fined, 7 violated regulations on advertising functional foods and 10 violated regulations on ensuring food safety (FS) in the production, trading, and use of food additives.

The Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) said that in early June 2014, the Department coordinated with the Hanoi Food Safety Department and the National Food Safety Testing Institute to conduct food safety inspections at establishments producing, trading, importing, advertising, and using food additives (PGTP).

Through inspection, a number of establishments were found to be violating food safety regulations. Based on the detected violations and the provisions of the law, Director of the Food Safety Department Tran Quang Trung issued a decision to impose administrative penalties on 17 establishments. Of these, 7 establishments violated the advertising of dietary supplements and 10 establishments violated the conditions for ensuring food safety in the production, trading and use of PGTP. The total amount of fines imposed on the companies was 211 million VND.

The companies fined include:

Vinh Gia Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company: Advertising dietary supplements Kieu Xuan and An Tri Vuong is not consistent with the advertising content confirmed by the Food Safety Department. This is the 4th time in 2014 that this company has been administratively punished for advertising dietary supplements. The Food Safety Department is considering revoking the advertising content certification if the violation occurs again.

Bao Binh An Trading Company Limited: Advertising the dietary supplement Manh Chua Dieu Khang and Dietary Supplement Cot Bach Bo with content that is not consistent with the advertising content confirmed by the Food Safety Department.

Ha Tay Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company: The advertisement for Herbeye dietary supplement has content that is inconsistent with the advertisement content confirmed by the Food Safety Department.

Trung My Joint Stock Company: Advertising Hoa Hoan Linh dietary supplement products without having the advertising content confirmed by the competent authority.

Hiep Phong Company Limited: Tien Dinh Khang dietary supplement advertisement has advertising content that is not consistent with the advertising content confirmed by the Food Safety Department.

Kim Long Investment JSC: Fiber Plus Baby dietary supplement advertisement has content that is inconsistent with the advertisement content confirmed by the Food Safety Department.

Nam Duoc Company Limited: Advertising the product Bach Xa Joint Supplement with content that is inconsistent with the advertising content confirmed by the Food Safety Department.

Asia Chemical Joint Stock Company Branch in Hanoi: Does not conduct periodic health check-ups for subjects subject to periodic health check-ups.

Giang Hoai Trading and Production Company Limited: Does not conduct periodic health check-ups for subjects subject to periodic health check-ups.

Hanex Company Limited: Failure to comply with regulations on the preservation of food additives (food flavorings).

ROHA DYECHEM Vietnam Co., Ltd. Branch in Hanoi: Does not conduct periodic health check-ups for subjects subject to periodic health check-ups.

Thuy Ta Joint Stock Company: Failure to comply with regulations on food additive preservation. In addition to administrative fines, the inspection team requested the destruction of 22kg of expired PGTP discovered during the inspection.

V&T Company Limited: Does not conduct periodic health check-ups for subjects subject to periodic health check-ups.

Viet My Chemical Distribution JSC: Does not conduct periodic health check-ups for subjects subject to periodic health check-ups.

An Ky Ha Noi Co., Ltd.: Not storing each type of PGTP separately leads to the risk of cross-contamination. In addition to administrative fines, the Inspection Team requested the destruction of 16kg of expired PGTP discovered during the inspection.

Brenntag Company Limited Representative Office in Hanoi: Failure to comply with regulations on PGTP preservation.

Connell Bros Vietnam Co., Ltd. Branch in Hanoi: PGTP business is subject to having a certificate of qualified food safety facility but does not have a certificate of qualified food safety facility.

Along with the fine, the Food Safety Department also requires/forces the violating establishments to immediately stop the violation; remove the illegal advertising content; correct the illegal advertising content on the mass media. Correct the conditions for ensuring food safety in the production, trading, and preservation of food and food additives; force the destruction of food and food additives that do not ensure food safety, have expired; destroy illegal advertising documents.

In the coming time, the Food Safety Department will coordinate with functional units and localities to continue to carry out comprehensive inspections and examinations of food safety at all establishments producing, trading, importing, and advertising food supplements and food additives. In case of detecting violations, they will be strictly handled in accordance with the provisions of law and publicly announced on mass media so that people know and choose safe food products.
