CAS technology enhances the value of Bac Giang lychee
On April 4, a delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology surveyed the raw material area and introduced CAS technology to help preserve, process, and improve the quality of lychees and other fruits, vegetables, and foods in Bac Giang province.
Accompanying the delegation was Mr. Owada Norio, General Director of ABI Company (Japan), the company that owns CAS technology.

At the working session with the leaders of the People's Committee of Bac Giang province and representatives of relevant departments and branches of the province, Mr. Owada Norio introduced CAS technology (abbreviation of Cells Alive System, meaning cell structures are still active, also known as cell preservation technology) researched and invented by ABI company.
This is an advanced freezing technology, always kept at a cold temperature of -35 degrees Celsius or higher but still does not break the membranes and cell walls, maintaining important elements that make up the flavor in food, thereby helping to preserve food better, keeping it delicious and fresh longer than traditional freezing technology.
Using CAS technology helps to ensure almost absolute freshness, deliciousness, and food safety for many types of agricultural products and foods with a preservation time of up to 1 year, even 10 years.
Currently, this technology has been widely applied not only in the agricultural and food processing industry but also in the livestock industry, medicine...
Using CAS technology also has some other advantages such as being environmentally friendly, saving a lot of energy (power consumption)...
According to Mr. Owada Norio, this technology can be completely applied to help preserve, process, and improve the quality of lychees as well as other vegetables, fruits, and foods that have large annual output and are the potential and strength of Bac Giang province.
Using CAS technology will help preserve lychees for 1-3 years while ensuring that almost all products retain their freshness. This technology can be used to process lychee jam and other processed products from lychees, contributing to increasing the value and expanding the consumption market for Bac Giang lychees.
In addition, CAS technology can also be used in preserving, processing, and enhancing the value of other fruits and vegetables, livestock products such as pigs, chickens, seafood, etc. of Bac Giang province.
Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Giang province Bui Van Hanh said that Bac Giang is the locality with the largest lychee production area in the country, in 2012 the total lychee area was over 30,000 hectares, with an output of over 120,000 tons.
However, lychee is highly seasonal, has a large yield, and a short harvest time, making it very difficult to preserve and process after harvest.
The province also has an area of over 20,000 hectares of annual vegetable production, the 5th largest pig herd in the country, and the 3rd largest poultry herd in the country.
Therefore, the province has a great need for preserving, processing and consuming the above products to increase production value and income for farmers.
Mr. Hanh hopes that in the coming time (immediately for the 2013 lychee crop), the province will coordinate with the Ministry of Science and Technology and ABI Company to build a model of transferring and successfully applying CAS technology in preserving and processing lychees, which can then be widely applied in preserving and processing, increasing the value of many other agricultural products of the province./.
