Scientists have just announced new technology that can help detect the El Nino weather phenomenon early.

Accordingly, scientists will use air temperature measurements to detect El Nino, instead of measuring water temperature as is currently the case.

Scientists claim that this new technology will help to make earlier forecasts (about 12 months before the El Nino phenomenon occurs) with a relatively high accuracy rate.

This is a positive step, especially useful for farmers and fishermen to give them more time to prepare for drought or floods.

Previously, water temperature measurement technology only allowed predicting El Nono events six months in advance.

The El Nino phenomenon occurs every 2-7 years, causing extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, severe weather... seriously affecting agricultural and fishing activities and people's lives.

This phenomenon has caused severe droughts in Australia, Indonesia and South America; floods in Peru and Ecuador; harsh winters in Europe, monsoons in East Asia and storms in the Caribbean./.
