Solar powered sprinkler irrigation technology
Taking advantage of the advantages and potential of a province with "lack of rain and plenty of sunshine" like Ninh Thuan, the project to apply sprinkler irrigation technology using solar energy has been deployed by Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology in Ninh Thuan, helping people to expand their cultivated area, reduce investment costs, improve production efficiency per unit area, and at the same time protect the ecological environment.
Solar sprinkler irrigation is a new technology, applied for the first time in Ninh Thuan. This technology is implemented to take advantage of sunlight, through an installed connection system such as batteries, chargers, accumulators, converters to create electricity. When there is electricity, farmers will use this power source attached to the pump motor to spray irrigation for crops.
Mr. Luong Van Liem and the technology research team of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology said that the application of this technology will bring many economic and environmental benefits to people, especially people living in areas without national grid electricity, areas lacking irrigation water and facing difficulties in production.
Applying this technology, farmers not only have electricity for daily use, but also for production, saving energy costs for production, saving labor and saving 30-50% of irrigation water compared to conventional irrigation methods.
In addition, this technology also helps people improve production efficiency, prevent sand from flying and jumping into the environment, limiting growth and development, affecting crop productivity. Although the investment cost to install this technology system is a bit high (about 100 million VND), the lifespan is quite long, about 15 years. Installing a solar-powered sprinkler irrigation system can irrigate about 4,000 square meters of production land.
Highly appreciating the solar-powered sprinkler irrigation technology, Mr. Pham Phu Rong, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ninh Thuan province, said that this is a new technology, applied for the first time in Ninh Thuan but brings high economic efficiency, because it is not only suitable for the climate conditions but also helps people reduce production costs, improve economic efficiency per unit area. When implementing the application, the Department will send specialized staff to help farmers apply it to production.
Mr. Nguyen Van Ngọt, Chairman of the Ninh Thuan Farmers' Association, affirmed: The Farmers' Association will replicate the model, and at the same time encourage and create favorable conditions to support farmers in borrowing capital to invest in installing this technology system for production. In addition, the Association also supports farmers in expanding the cultivated area, crop varieties, and supporting the exploration and exploitation of water sources for crop irrigation.
Currently, the project has begun to pilot an irrigation system on a 4,000m2 bean production area of Mr. Nguyen Huu Luong's family in Tu Tam 2 village, Phuoc Hai commune, Ninh Phuoc district. The entire cost of installing the system is sponsored by Holcim Prize Company, except for the sprinkler irrigation system, the people themselves invested capital./.
