Workers of PREX Vinh Company went on strike due to lack of guaranteed benefits.
On the morning of May 11, 2012, at PREX Vinh Company (located in Do Luong District), nearly 1,100 workers of the Company went on strike. Immediately after the strike, the Do Luong District Labor Federation and relevant departments went directly to the Company to listen to the opinions of the workers and to have a dialogue with the Company's Board of Directors.
Workers said the reasons for the strike were: Health insurance cards have not been issued even though workers have paid for them; annual leave for workers is not appropriate; the company has cut child support; employers do not treat workers well; overtime is not guaranteed; workers' salaries are low (1.4 million VND/month).
During the dialogue at the strike, the Company representative answered the issues that the workers had raised, questions about, and the reasons for the strike; at the same time, explained some of the things that the Company's Board of Directors had done wrong. The Company will meet and review the responsibilities of each individual in charge of each department.
Regarding the issues that PREX Vinh workers have proposed, the People's Committee of Do Luong district requested the Company's Board of Directors to resolve the workers' legitimate proposals, stabilize the situation and production soon, and at the same time, the Company must spend time educating and propagating labor laws for workers to understand and implement.
Some workers said they will return to work when the Company satisfactorily resolves the above issues.
