Russian media quoted many sources close to the United Russia Party as saying that famous Crimean prosecutor Natalia Poklonskaya may run for the Russian Parliament in the upcoming 2016 election.

According to Russia's Izvestia newspaper, Poklonskaya is being considered to become a candidate in the parliamentary race taking place in September 2016.
“Preparations for the State Duma (lower house) elections are underway. We will consider candidates who will benefit both the party and Russia, for example, Natalia Poklonskaya,” one of the sources close to the ruling party said.
Russia recently switched to the electoral system used between 1993 and 2003: half of the 450 seats in the State Duma are chosen from party lists. The other half are elected by voters, with the candidate who wins the most votes over all other candidates being the winner.
Poklonskaya has not commented on the possibility of her candidacy on social media or in the Russian media. However, a number of sources and analysts have suggested that her recent increased media presence could be a sign of her intention to run for a seat in the 2016 parliament.
Rating2016, a political research project of the Russian Center for Political and Social Sciences, shows that Poklonskaya is currently ranked 10th among the most highly rated candidates in the 2016 parliamentary elections.
The project attributed Poklonskaya's rapid rise in the rankings to her appearance in the popular documentary “Crimea: The Way Home,” which was watched by 40% of Russians in March and created a huge wave of interest in the beautiful prosecutor in public and political activities.
Rating2016 also stressed that the constant threats from the Kiev authorities to Poklonskaya, from placing her on the wanted list to arresting her in absentia, and a series of death threats from ultra-nationalists over the past year have only increased the attention on Poklonskaya.
Since taking power at the Prosecutor General's Office in March 2014, Poklonskaya has become a symbol of beauty and steely spirit, ready to stand up for the interests of the young Crimean republic.
Prosecutor Poklonskaya became a celebrity in Crimea and Russia after she submitted her resignation to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry in February 2014, declaring that she could not accept living in a country “where fascists freely walk the streets.”
She accepted the offer of the newly elected Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksyonov and became the Chief Prosecutor of the Crimean Republic, a position that other male candidates had turned down for fear of danger.
Since then, Poklonskaya has become one of the symbols of the “Russian Spring” in Crimea, attracting the attention and admiration of many people in Russia and around the world.
Last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin promoted Poklonskaya to the rank of Legal Adviser Third Class, equivalent to the rank of Major General in the Russian military. Prior to receiving this title, Poklonskaya was a Senior Legal Adviser, equivalent to the rank of Colonel./.
