That is the information announced by Hero of Labor, Dr. Hoang Duc Thao, Chairman and General Director of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Urban Development and Drainage Company (BUSADCO) on the morning of April 30. This is the only Vietnamese enterprise to be awarded the Wipo Award for the best enterprise in Vietnam in 2013 by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Dr. Hoang Duc Thao also received the Wipo Award for the author of the best work of the year.

“After many years of hard work in researching and applying in Vietnamese cities, the project “Research on the application of BUSADCO precast thin-walled reinforced concrete technical trenches in undergrounding technical infrastructure systems in Vietnamese cities” (abbreviated as Busadco Technical Trench) has been highly appreciated by the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Vietnam Foundation for Supporting Technical Innovation (VIFOTEC). This project, along with a series of other useful projects that we successfully researched and applied in 2013, helped us become the only enterprise to win the World Intellectual Property Award. This year, WIPO awarded three projects and one enterprise; awarded the 2013 Vietnam Intellectual Property Golden Cup to five outstanding enterprises in applying the intellectual property system, while Busadco alone received 2 out of 4 Wipo awards and one Intellectual Property Golden Cup,” added Dr. Hoang Duc Thao. Previously, this project was also awarded the first prize in the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Award (Vifotec Award 2013) by the Vietnam Foundation for Supporting Technical Innovation (VIFOTEC).

According to Dr. Hoang Duc Thao, the situation of "digging up and filling up the road" has been a burning issue that has existed in many urban areas in Vietnam for many years. Roads are dug up and filled up, causing difficulties in management, maintenance, operation, and maintenance while the requirements for installation and repair of power lines, telephone lines, fiber optic cables, etc. are frequent and unavoidable. To overcome this situation, Dr. Hoang Duc Thao and his colleagues have worked hard to research and produce "technical trench" products with the initiative and solution of "submerging" urban infrastructure such as fiber optic cables, electricity supply, water supply, etc. All of these devices are placed together in technical trenches, in different compartments. Therefore, although it was only launched in 2010, the project has attracted customers because of its useful features.

Technical trenches are made of precast thin-walled reinforced concrete using sulfate-resistant, corrosion-resistant, anti-erosion cement materials, with a solid density, "super thin" of only 5-8cm, helping to save urban underground space, save land funds, reduce digging on sidewalks and roads, and ensure urban aesthetics. This solution brings high economic efficiency due to reducing product costs, saving raw materials, reducing investment costs, convenient for construction and installation, convenient for maintenance, operation and maintenance of underground construction systems.

This technical trench is now widely used in the construction of technical infrastructure in many urban areas across the country such as: Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Quang Ngai, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ho Chi Minh City, Hung Yen... Particularly in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, realizing the usefulness of the product, the Provincial People's Committee has required the mandatory use of Technical trenches in projects to renovate, upgrade and build new urban roads.
