Nghi Thiet sea area has a natural depth of 9m. The construction of the seaport here will serve ships over 70,000 tons to load and unload goods and after completing phase 1, the channel will be dredged, ships over 100,000 tons can dock at the wharf.
Initially, the wharf will serve the export of cement and clinker of Song Lam Cement Factory; in the long term, the port will be upgraded to an international port for the entire North Central region. The Nghi Thiet Deepwater Port Project is considered an important project that not only has a significant meaning in creating a "push" for the development of Nghe An province and the North Central provinces, but also promotes economic exchange with the Northeastern regions of Thailand and Central Laos.
Therefore, The Vissai Cement Group is determined to mobilize resources for construction investment. During the implementation process, Song Lam Cement Joint Stock Company was assigned to supervise and urge the contractor to speed up the progress. Although the weather has not been favorable recently, with high waves and strong winds affecting the construction work, the construction unit, the General Corporation of Traffic Construction 4 (Cienco 4), has sent staff with modern machinery to always follow the project.
Mr. Ho Duc Phuc, Cienco 4 officer in charge of Nghi Thiet port construction, shared: “The Vissai Cement Group regularly conducts field inspections and has very high requirements for the progress and quality of port construction. That puts a lot of pressure on the staff and construction team at the site. We take advantage of every favorable weather moment to speed up construction. Basically, the most difficult stages have passed, we are ready with the materials to connect 39 wharf spans from the shore to the port for ships to dock. It is expected that in the first half of April 2017, when the weather is favorable, we will launch the connecting beams…”.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tai - Construction Manager of Nghi Thiet Cement Grinding Station and Seaport (Song Lam Cement Joint Stock Company) added: Along with the wharf project, we urge the contractor to speed up the construction of the first wharf with a length of 300m and a width of 21m.
Up to now, the works have completed more than 70% of the project volume, waiting for favorable weather to launch the wharf beam connecting the mainland to the deep-water port and completing some other items to be able to serve ships docking at the port. That is very meaningful to serve the first line of the Cement Grinding Station to go into operation this April.
Onshore, the first cement grinding station and the cement conveyor belt leading to the seaport, about 3,000m long, are also speeding up progress. Workers from 7 contractors are mobilized to work 24/7, including holidays, to complete the required items.

Through discussion, Mr. Dinh Quoc Quyen - General Director of Song Lam Cement Joint Stock Company affirmed: "On the occasion of the anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country on April 30 this year, the Cement Grinding Station officially came into operation. At that time, bagged cement products as well as bulk cement need to be released to ensure the continuous operation of the grinding station.
Therefore, we regularly urge contractors to speed up the construction of wharves and seaports for ships to load and transport cement to regions as well as serve the export of clinker and cement to other countries. Because of such importance, the group's leaders, especially the group's Chairman, Mr. Hoang Manh Truong, regularly visit the field to inspect and remind construction units to speed up the progress and ensure the quality of the project. We aim to connect the seaport by the end of April, serving the development of the group as well as promoting the economic development of Nghe An and other regions in the new period.
