Song Con Sugar Company: Breakthrough with land accumulation policy

Efficiency from intensive sugarcane farming

With 1,200 hectares, Giai Xuan is the commune with the second largest sugarcane area in Tan Ky. In recent years, sugarcane has affirmed its position in this land - where the land is mainly mountainous and no other crop has surpassed sugarcane in terms of income. Cassava here is only 245 hectares, giving an income of about 30 million VND/ha/year, while sugarcane gives an income of about 80 million VND/ha/year.

Mr. Le Minh Quy's family in Van Long hamlet, Giai Xuan commune, Tan Ky district grows 2 hectares of sugarcane on a large scale. Thanks to the application of science and technology and compliance with the factory's intensive farming process, his family's sugarcane grows well, this crop is estimated to reach 80-90 tons/ha.

Mr. Le Minh Quy excitedly shared: “My family participating in this large-scale concentrated sugarcane growing model has seen real efficiency in productivity. Sugarcane rows are wider and more airy, making them easier to weed, easier to fertilize, less pests, and thicker sugarcane bushes will give higher productivity.”

Chairman of the Commune People's Committee Vu Ngoc Son said: The concentrated sugarcane area under the form of land consolidation that the commune is implementing brings in an income of 117 million VND/ha, with a yield of over 90 tons/ha. Meanwhile, normal sugarcane only yields 50 tons/ha. The effectiveness of the concentrated sugarcane production model in the commune over the past 2 years has attracted other communes to learn and the commune is expanding this form.

Accordingly, in 2018, Giai Xuan commune will expand intensive sugarcane cultivation in Long Tho and Ke Mui hamlets with an area of ​​50 hectares, increasing the concentrated sugarcane production area in the commune to 117 hectares.

Remember in 2016, Thanh Tra hamlet - Tan Xuan commune (Tan Ky) was the first commune to implement land consolidation and apply science and technology to produce industrial sugarcane. The hamlet converted 100% of low-yield rice land to grow Thai sugarcane in the hamlet with 45 hectares and after 7 months the sugarcane grew well. The sugarcane grew evenly, the plant density was high and the yield was high. According to the assessment of Song Con Sugarcane Company, the yield reached about 100 tons/ha, which is the area with the highest yield in Tan Ky.

From the effectiveness of Thanh Tra hamlet, Tan Xuan, up to now in Tan Ky area, many communes have implemented land consolidation, intensive sugarcane cultivation in Nghia Dong, Giai Xuan, Tan Xuan... increasing the area of ​​intensive sugarcane cultivation in Tan Ky to about 300 hectares.

Policy of contributing capital and land with farmers

Mr. Le Dinh Hoan - Director of Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company said: 2017 and 2018 will be the year the Company makes a breakthrough with the policy of land accumulation with the forms of land lease, land contribution, capital contribution of farmers together with sugarcane factories and sharing benefits.

The scale of land accumulation is contiguous land areas, with an area of ​​5 hectares or more, where farmers are organizing small-scale, inefficient production. Accordingly, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company implements two forms of land accumulation: one is leasing land use rights and the other is land contribution.

With the form of land use right lease, the Company stands up to lease the entire land area on the land that is eligible to apply scientific and technological advances in sugarcane production investment. Mainly applied on 5% of the commune's land, the Company will pay the land rent directly to the land user.

As for land contribution, farmers contribute many small plots of land on the same field to form a large plot of land to produce sugarcane together. This is a highly effective linkage model in sugarcane production.

The subjects participating in production include companies, farmers or social organizations established by farmers. The government plays the role of a supervisor in the process of linking the Company and the people.

To implement land contribution, the Commune People's Committee or the Agricultural Cooperative mobilizes farmers to contribute land to join production. After completing the land contribution, Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company organizes production, and farmers are the ones who participate in the work and receive wages according to the labor price on the market.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Vo Ngoc Son - Chairman of Giai Xuan People's Committee said: We have implemented the Company's policy to the people, accordingly, farmers will still keep their land area, the Commune People's Committee has a written commitment that when the sugarcane production association period ends, it will return all land area of ​​households that contributed during the production association process.

Before the sugarcane production season, farmers are entitled to a fixed profit in advance (this profit is equivalent to the land rental price at that time). Every year, when the sugarcane production season ends, farmers will be divided a profit according to the initial agreement and receive labor costs when performing the stages in the sugarcane production organization process..

After the land is returned, farmers also have the infrastructure initially invested by the Company to produce sugarcane. Moreover, during the investment in sugarcane production, the fertility of the land is greatly improved.

With this policy, right from the autumn crop, Song Con Sugar Factory started to implement and promised a highly effective sugarcane crop with higher cohesion and more professional production.
