Japanese company helps fishermen build steel-hulled fleets
After successfully designing and building a composite hulled ship for ocean tuna fishing under the order of Yanma Company (Japan), the Shipbuilding Research Institute under Nha Trang University continues to implement the project of Sustainable Development of Vietnam's Tuna Fishing Industry initiated by Yanma.

Yanma Company will build composite hull fleets in three provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa, 60 boats in each province, following the model of a Japanese joint-stock fishing company.
Fishermen in the above provinces will carry out fishing, Yanma Company will manage the quality of tuna and purchase and export the products. Thereby, the Shipbuilding Research Institute is approaching and introducing new ship models to fishermen in the provinces, combining the implementation of Decree 67/2014/ND-CP of the Government and the above project to promote the highest efficiency.
Also in Khanh Hoa, Cam Ranh Shipbuilding One Member Limited Liability Company has built and delivered two purse seine boats to Quang Ngai fishermen under a pilot program of the Ministry of Transport and Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation.
In addition, this enterprise is continuing to build two new steel-hulled fishing boats for fishermen under the loan support program of the Quang Ngai Province Fisheries Support Fund.
Initially, the company has actively coordinated with the provinces of Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa to introduce the features, advantages and designs of steel-hulled fishing boats to fishermen and at the same time solicited their opinions on the designs to suit each industry and each exploitation area. Up to now, the company is promoting the design and signing contracts to build new boats for fishermen in the provinces of Quang Ngai (21 boats), Binh Dinh (24 boats), Phu Yen (17 boats) and Khanh Hoa (15 boats).
According to the quota allocated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, fishermen in four South Central provinces from Quang Ngai to Khanh Hoa are eligible to borrow capital to build over 780 new boats; the materials of the hulls, whether wooden, iron or composite, are chosen and decided by the fishermen.
