The root of the Chinese quince tree is also known by many other names such as tiger root, ban root, field quince, etc., and is a plant whose roots are used to make medicine.

Whenever medicinal herbs containing the word "bone" are mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is something related to treating bone diseases, for example, *Cốt toái bổ* (a type of herb), *Bổ cốt chi* (a type of herb)... Thus, *Cốt khí củ* (a type of root) is no exception to this rule. When talking about *Cốt khí*, one can think of at least two plants: *Cốt khí củ* (Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb. et Zucc., Polygonaceae family) and *Cốt khí muồng* (Cassia ocidentalis L., Caesalpiniaceeae family).

The root of the Chinese angelica plant, also known by other names such as tiger root, ban root, and field stone, is used as medicine. However, it is commonly referred to as "the root" in folk medicine, hence the name "root"... To obtain the medicinal material, after harvesting, usually from September onwards, ideally in winter, when the above-ground parts of the plant have begun to wither, the roots are dug up, washed to remove soil and sand, the smaller roots are cut off, dried until slightly shriveled, and then dried with sulfur to prevent mold; after that, they are further dried or oven-dried and stored in clean sacks in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated place. Before use, they are soaked to soften, washed clean, sliced, dried, and roasted until golden brown. It should also be noted that Chinese angelica root is very susceptible to mold, reducing the quality of the medicine. Therefore, post-harvest processing and processing before use are matters that require utmost attention.

The chemical composition of the root of *Cynanchum auriculatum* is mainly composed of anthranoid compounds. The aqueous extract of *Cynanchum auriculatum* has anti-inflammatory effects, inhibits tumor growth, and inhibits mutation and DNA closure by 1-nitropyrene. It is one of the medicinal herbs with anti-aging effects. The root extract also has hemostatic, antitussive, bronchodilating, cholesterol-lowering, and inhibitory effects on Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Shigella dysenteriae. The stibens in *Cynanchum auriculatum*, especially resveratrol, reduce lipoprotein (LDL) deposition, act as antioxidants, prevent the development of skin cancer, and can alter triglyceride and cholesterol synthesis, reducing damage to nearby tissues.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the root of the Coptis chinensis plant has a bitter taste and warm nature. It acts on the liver and pericardium meridians, with the functions of promoting blood circulation, regulating menstruation, relieving pain, dispelling wind and dampness, clearing damp heat, reducing inflammation, and killing bacteria.
