Living milestone at sea
(Baonghean) - Preparing for a sea trip, Mr. Nguyen Hong Son, owner of a fishing boat in Quynh Phuong Ward, Hoang Mai Town, is re-hanging the national flag on the roof of the boat, preparing many new flags, ready to replace the old flag or the one torn by the sea wind. He said: “For fishermen, the national flag is not only hung on holidays and Tet, the flag is hung regularly on boats, when going out to sea, fishing for seafood. The red flag with a yellow star fluttering high on the sea, it is like a “living” milestone affirming and firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the homeland.
Not only waving high with fishermen on their trips to sea, the flag is also present in the ship's new construction stages. Mr. Tran Dinh Anh, owner of a shipbuilding facility in Quynh Lap commune, Hoang Mai town, said: "On the first day of laying the wood, the ship owner and the workshop owner take a large flag and hold it to the bow of the ship and perform rituals according to local customs, placing faith in victory and the spirit of victory, along with the spirit of protecting the sovereignty of the Fatherland right from the beginning. On the day of building the ship's skeleton (frame), the ship owner and the workshop workers plant a new flag on the bow of the ship and on the day of launching and completing the ship, the ship owner plants 5-10 national flags in the most solemn positions." Mr. Nguyen Quoc Trong in Quynh Lap commune, Hoang Mai town, owner of fishing boat 1020 CV said: His boat was newly built and completed in June this year, it has become a tradition that when the inauguration ceremony was held, his brothers, relatives, Party committees, authorities and mass organizations in the commune came to congratulate and present the national flag, the number of flags he was presented with was up to 231; on each sea trip, his boat always flies 10 national flags.
At the beginning of the year, the People's Committees of the coastal wards and communes of Hoang Mai Town came to encourage and present the national flag to the ships that successfully exploited their first sea voyages; and at the end of the year, the government and departments, branches and organizations organized evaluations, commendations and presented the national flag to the ships that excellently completed their missions. Each ship and each flag present in Vietnam's seas is like a living milestone, affirming and protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland. The national flag also represents and encourages the spirit of victory for fishermen, that once they go out to sea and exploit, they exploit successfully, steadfastly stick to the ship and the sea; through the national flag, it also helps fishermen and law enforcement forces of our country distinguish Vietnamese ships from foreign ships, be ready to help or rescue when ships are in distress, or take measures to handle when foreign ships are discovered to encroach and illegally exploit in Vietnam's seas.
These are "living" sovereignty milestones at sea, contributing to affirming and firmly protecting the sacred sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
