The announcement came after the Cambodian National Assembly on December 19 amended its internal regulations to pave the way for a decision to recognize a minority leader.
Under the amended rules, the head of any opposition party holding at least 25% of the seats in parliament will be officially recognised as a "minority leader" in parliament.
This minority leader, who has the same rank as the prime minister, will be the head of government's dialogue partner on matters of national interest.
The Cambodian National Assembly has 123 members, of which 68 seats belong to the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) of Prime Minister Hun Sen and 55 seats belong to the opposition CNRP./.
