Crimea prepares to sue over sanctions

Alexander Molokhov, head of the Council of Experts on International Legal Affairs in the Crimean government, said that work has begun on drafting documents to initiate a lawsuit against sanctions imposed on the territory, and the first complaint will be filed in court early next year.

"It's too early to talk about any results. Work is being done, and if not this year, then next year we will definitely do it. We are acting in two directions, the first is to appeal against individual sanctions… everything is being done," Molokhov told Sputnik.

The second direction the lawyers are working on is to challenge the entire set of sanctions against Crimea.

"This issue is largely political. We are working closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice. The difficulty here is that litigation procedures abroad, at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, require quite large financial costs and finding a number of sources of information for this work. This issue has not been decided yet," the expert emphasized.
