At the end of the 2016 World Weightlifting Championship in Houston (USA), the Vietnamese men's weightlifting team completed its goal of accumulating points and winning 3 official tickets to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Specifically, in the 56 kg category, Thach Kim Tuan won the bronze medal and Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan ranked 15th. Tran Le Quoc Toan ranked 17th in the 62 kg category, Nguyen Hong Ngoc ranked 33rd in the 77 kg category and Hoang Tan Tai ranked 23rd in the 85 kg category.

Thus, including both tournaments, Vietnam has 92 points. According to the regulations of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), countries ranked from 19th to 24th in the men's team event after combining the results of the 2014 and 2015 world championships will be allowed to send 3 athletes to the Olympics.

Thach Kim Tuan, Tran Le Quoc Toan and Nguyen Tran Anh Tuan will likely represent Vietnamese men's weightlifting at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Meanwhile, in the women's weight classes, no athlete has yet won a ticket to Brazil.

Up to this point, Vietnamese sports have had 6 athletes win tickets to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) including Nguyen Thi Anh Vien (swimming), Hoang Xuan Vinh, Tran Quoc Cuong (shooting) and 3 male weightlifting tickets.

Athlete Nguyen Thi Huyen (track and field) has met Olympic standards but still has to wait for the IAAF to finalize the official list.
