Cua Lo voters: From the Formosa incident, petition for strict environmental control
(Baonghean.vn)- Cua Lo residents have been severely affected by the marine environmental disaster caused by Formosa Company. The request that central ministries and branches have mechanisms and policies to support fishermen and seafood production and trading enterprises is the wish of Cua Lo town voters sent to the National Assembly deputies elected in constituency No. 5, including Ms. Nguyen Van Chi - Standing Member - Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hien - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Nghe An province at the meeting with Cua Lo town voters on the morning of October 5.
Attending the TXCT session were representatives of provincial departments and branches, leaders of Cua Lo town and representatives of voters from 7 wards in the area.

Concerned with the National Assembly Deputies, Mr. Nguyen Van Hue - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nghi Thuy Ward reflected: The marine environmental disaster of Formosa Company has had a huge impact, leaving serious consequences on the activities as well as the consumption of seafood products of fishermen. The lives of Nghe An fishermen are facing many difficulties. "We earnestly request the National Assembly Deputies to recommend to the Government, ministries and central branches to have mechanisms and policies to support Nghe An fishermen".

Regarding the impact of environmental impacts, Mr. Phan Van At, voter of block 5, Nghi Thuy ward, said that Cua Lo residents are suffering from environmental pollution caused by gas extraction plants and wastewater discharged into the environment from hotels and restaurants.
The government should pay attention to building a wastewater treatment system to ensure a living environment for the people. Mr. At suggested that the National Assembly deputies should make recommendations to the Government and the Central Government on the Formosa case to strictly control, strengthen inspection and supervision of marine pollution in particular and environmental pollution in general.

Responding to voters' petitions, Mr. Doan Tien Dung - Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Lo town shared the difficulties of fishermen and seafood traders. Mr. Dung said: Affected by the Formosa environmental incident, Cua Lo town currently has more than 1,400 tons of frozen seafood that have not been consumed. The town and province have reported to the Government to propose mechanisms and policies to support fishermen affected by the Formosa environmental incident.
On the Town side, it will survey and have mechanisms and policies to support people in the process of exploiting and consuming seafood products. Along with that, the Town will strengthen propaganda work for people and tourists and regularly conduct monitoring to ensure that Cua Lo seawater is not contaminated.

Regarding environmental pollution in the area, the town is currently continuing to invest in building a wastewater treatment system. When the project is completed and put into operation, it will thoroughly handle environmental pollution in water sources. The locality has proposed that the province relocate 2 gas filling plants out of the area.

Voters and people continue to report that smuggling, counterfeit goods, and poor quality goods continue to negatively affect production and consumption; they are worried and frustrated about the use of toxic chemicals in food preservation and processing; and the use of banned substances in agricultural production has a major impact on the health of consumers and the domestic livestock industry.
Propose that the Government direct competent authorities to strengthen inspection, control, and strictly handle organizations and individuals violating food safety regulations.
Regarding the Law on Organization of Local Government, voters suggested that during the process of participating in the Law's development, local authorities had given their opinions. However, when the Law came into effect, there were still opinions that were not suitable for reality. It is recommended that the State, when promulgating the Law, should be close to reality.

Besides, many voters continued to request that the Party and State continue to pay attention to people with meritorious services, strengthen management and have strict sanctions to deal with corruption and waste.
Sharing the difficulties of voters affected by the recent marine environmental incident, with the responsibility of an elected representative, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hien explained and clarified the issues that voters were concerned about.
The delegate promised to receive and forward to the relevant authorities to consider and resolve voters' petitions.
