Losing to the Thai cyclist at the finish line, racer Nguyen Thi That won a silver medal in the road cycling event.

In the competition taking place at noon on September 29, the Vietnamese cycling team participated with two riders Nguyen Thi That and Nguyen Phan Ngoc Trang. This was an event that was not expected to win medals because the Vietnamese athletes had to compete with strong riders from Korea, China, Japan, etc. Therefore, the silver medal that Nguyen Thi That won was surprising but a bit regretful.

After nine laps around the city, despite being constantly attacked by opponents and the rainy weather, the two Vietnamese racers still persevered and were always in the leading group.

After 3 hours 39 minutes 33 seconds, the riders arrived at the finish line with a large group. Rider Maneephan Jutatip was the first to sprint. Nguyen Thi That immediately pressed the pedal to follow, passing Taiwanese rider Hsiao Mei Yu but could not catch up with her Thai opponent. Unfortunately for the Vietnamese rider, because Maneephanbefore racing her in the sprint stages of the 2014 Binh Duong Open International Cycling Tournament.

The remaining Vietnamese racer, Nguyen Phan Ngoc Trang, ranked 15th.

The Vietnamese cycling team participated in the 2014 Asian Games with five riders (three men, two women). Apart from Nguyen Thi That, the remaining cyclists all competed and were unsuccessful. Trinh Duc Tam failed in the individual time trial while Le Van Duan and Mai Nguyen Hung finished 12th and 20th respectively in the men's road race.
