Saying goodbye to a loved one is never easy, even for animals. The touching story of two beagles in Deluth, Minnesota, USA, who refused to leave the hospital bed of 5-month-old Nora Hall has touched many people.
According to Nora’s parents, John and Mary Hall, their daughter was born prematurely and spent the first six weeks of her life in the intensive care unit. One day in early April, when Nora was five months old, she suffered a stroke. Doctors diagnosed Nora with pulmonary hypertension and she could not survive, according to Global News.
Nora's mother said the stroke affected both sides of her brain, causing severe brain damage. When Nora's days were numbered, doctors at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis asked Mary and her husband if they had any final wishes for their daughter.
"I asked, 'Can we take the dogs to the hospital?' and they said yes. I didn't want to go home and have the dogs sniffing around for Nora and not knowing where she went. The doctor lowered the bed so Grumpy and Gracie could lie down with Nora. Gracie ran over and licked Nora," Mary recalled.

Two 8-year-old dogs stayed by Nora's side the entire time she was taken to the hospital.
"Gracie acted as a 'second mother'. Whenever Nora cried, Gracie would run over to see what was wrong. She was always there, kissing her and making sure Nora was okay," Mary said.
On May 2, Nora breathed her last with her parents and two dogs.
"My husband and I feel comforted having Grumpy and Gracie here. We know they can sense something is wrong," ABC News quoted Mary as saying.
This mother said that normally Grumpy and Gracie are happy, but when they are with Nora, their faces are full of worry and sadness. Nora's mother expressed gratitude to the hospital for giving Gracie and Grumpy special permission to spend their last moments with Nora. The patient's family saved the affectionate moments of the two dogs with her and posted them on Facebook. Their sharing received a lot of love from fans around the world.
"Nora was a really happy baby. Before she went to the hospital, Nora was smiling. She was always happy," Mary said.
