The lives of two men and the baby girl they conceived

According toNew York Times, one year old girlPaetyn has two fathers. One of them is the father of the baby - Tanner, 25. Tanner is a transgender man - he was born female but had surgery to become male, and still takes the male hormone testosterone every day.Paetyn's biological father is David, 35, a gay man who is also Tanner's partner.David worked in insurance, Tanner worked at an auto parts store, a cleaning service, and a bar. They also performed at a local club near their home in suburban New York City.

Transgender men are often unable to conceive due to the use of exogenous testosterone. However, Tanner was a special case. He missed a few doses of testosterone and got pregnant. This was a big surprise for this gay couple.

While David was happy to have a child born to him and his wife, because according to him: "it is a dream that many people in the LGBT community do not have," Tanner was more surprised and shocked."Our first reaction was a little surprise to have her. Then it was a blast! It was a baby. She was amazing. She kept my mind in the clouds all day."Tanner said and affirmed that even though he is pregnant, he is still a man.

As his belly grew, Tanner stayed home more. He didn't want to be seen. "It's a very strange sight to see a pregnant man.I don't want to be judged, especially by my child."He also doesn't like this pregnancy, he can't share with anyone because he feels like no one understands him.

At first, Tanner hoped the child would be a boy. He didn't want a girl because he would have toexplaining transgender to her child: "I don't want her to feel that being a girl is a bad thing. I don't want her to feel like she's a mistake."

Giving birth wasn't easy for Tanner either. He started feeling sick on Friday. By Monday, the monitors showed the baby's heart rate had slowed, and doctors rushed him into surgery for an emergency cesarean section.

“Do you want to cut the umbilical cord?” a nurse asked David. “I took the scissors, and it felt like cutting a rubber band,” David recalled. Then the doctor allowed Tanner to hold the baby, and the two dads cried.”Tanner felt like he was about to faint, but he tried to stay awake. After Paetyn was born, Tanner went back to taking testosterone every day.

While David hopes his daughter is a lesbian, Tanner hopes"She's going to be a normal girl," Tanner said. "It's hard to live in a society where anyone is willing to hurt you just because you're gay or transgender. It's scary." Tanneradded, "I hope she learns to face her fears. I want her to overcome everything and not let anyone hurt her. I want her to rise above it all and prove everyone wrong about her two dads."

David hopes: "She can live independently, have a successful career and a wonderful family, and I hope she will initiate some movements to fight for equality for gay people.She will know for herself what kind of person she will become," David said..
