In total, the Russian army will mobilize nearly 100,000 soldiers, 1,500 tanks, 120 aircraft, 70 warships, 5,000 units of weapons, special equipment and other military equipment.

Several units from the Western Military District will also take part in the exercises. “Some units will be redeployed from western Russia to the Far East, covering a distance of more than 6,000km,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.

Russian naval forces were also mobilized to participate in this exercise.

Many warships in the Russian fleet were ordered to move to the exercise area many days ago.

The exercise will end on September 25. This exercise is part of a series of special and extraordinary exercises, staff and command checks in 2014 under the direction of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Vostok-2014” is said to be the last in a series of large-scale and unannounced combat readiness exercises of the Russian Armed Forces in 2014. However, the US, NATO and Ukraine believe that Russia is using diversionary tactics to move troops closer to the border and invade Ukrainian territory.

On September 18, the Ukrainian government announced that Russia had mobilized about 4,000 troops stationed in Crimea to the border area with Ukraine. These units, which include a total of about 4,000 soldiers, will be deployed in "small tactical groups" along the approximately 100km border in Crimea.

In addition, tactical missiles and cruise missiles will also be mobilized for this huge exercise.

According to the statement, the aircraft participating in the exercise will include: Tu-95MS strategic missile-carrying bombers, Tupolev-22M3 bombers, Ilyushin-78 tankers, Il-76 and An-12 transport aircraft, and A-50 long-range airborne early warning aircraft.

In addition, Mi-8, Mi-24 and Ka-52 helicopters, Su-24 bombers, S-25 attack aircraft, MiG-31 and Su-27 fighters, and the latest multirole fighters S-34, Su-30SM and Su-35S will also take part in the exercises.

According to the plan, the exercise will include units that participated in an unusual combat readiness test exercise in the Eastern Military District from September 11 to 18.

Troops were placed on full alert, moving and redeploying by air, rail and sea. Some units moved up to 4,000km.

All branches and services of the Russian army will participate in the exercises and no detailed scenario will be announced in advance.

The Russian Defense Ministry only said that the exercise will take place on more than 20 training grounds of the Eastern Military District's infantry, navy and air force from Anadyra to Vladivostok and will last until September 25.
