The thousand-kilometer escape of a game-addicted thief

(Baonghean.vn) - Due to lack of money to play games, two young men stalked and committed a series of thefts from many people. When they learned that the police were chasing them, one of them fled to the Central Highlands.

On March 9, the Nghi Loc District Police Department announced that the unit had successfully broken up a property theft case coded 217T, arrested two suspects, and recovered many properties to return to the victims.

Previously, from the end of January to February 2017, Nghi Loc district had many cases of property theft in people's houses. The thieves' methods were to break doors, enter houses to search for belongings, steal property such as money, phones, motorbikes, etc., causing public outrage. Faced with this situation, Nghi Loc district police leaders decided to establish a special project coded 217T to combat the crime.

During the screening and monitoring process, the investigation agency narrowed down a number of subjects with many suspicious signs. One of them was Thai Viet Nhuong (born in 1996, residing in Tay Van hamlet, Nghi Van commune, Nghi Loc district).

On February 27, Nhuong was invited to the investigation agency for questioning. At first, Thai Viet Nhuong was evasive and denied participating in the thefts in the district. However, through professional measures, the subject confessed that he had committed thefts in the district with Nguyen Van Kha (born in 1998, residing in Tay Van hamlet, Nghi Van commune) in the past.

Based on Thai Viet Nhuong's testimony, the head of the Nghi Loc District Police Investigation Agency issued an emergency arrest warrant for Nguyen Van Kha. However, when he saw the commotion, Kha quickly fled.

Initially, the subject hid in Dien Chau district. When the authorities arrived at the address where Kha was hiding, the subject had already fled to Vinh City. When the police entered Vinh City to arrest him, Kha quickly got on a car to Hue City and then escaped to the Central Highlands.

Using professional measures, on March 6, the investigation agency determined that Nguyen Van Kha was hiding in Buon Ho town, Dak Lak province. Two investigators were ordered to immediately go there to urgently arrest the subject. On the morning of March 7, the working group coordinated with the Buon Ho town police, Dak Lak province to arrest Nguyen Van Kha at the Hong Quan motel in village 9B, Chu Pao commune, Buon Ho town.

During the investigation, Thai Viet Nhuong and Nguyen Van Kha confessed that they were both addicted to gaming and had committed many thefts in Nghi Loc district, Vinh city and Hung Nguyen district. Specifically, on January 8, 2017, Nguyen Van Kha and another person living in Tay Van hamlet, Nghi Van commune broke into the house of Nguyen Thi Luong (in hamlet 3, Hung Yen Nam commune, Hung Nguyen district) and stole an Iphone 5 and 800,000 VND.

A month later, on the night of February 7, Kha and Nhuong returned from playing video games. When they passed by Mr. Nguyen Duy Phong's house in Hamlet 22, Nghi Trung Commune, the two men climbed over the gate, opened the door, entered the house and stole an Iphone 5, a Samsung phone and 11.7 million VND from a wallet on the table. On February 27, the two men returned to Mr. Nguyen Duy Phong's house to steal an Airblade motorbike.

After getting used to the smell, at 1:00 p.m. on February 15, after playing video games, Nhuong invited Kha to Hung Dung ward, Vinh city to steal property. When they arrived at the boarding house in Xuan Tien block, Kha stood outside to watch, Nhuong took a wrench and broke the lock of the boarding house of Ms. Tran Thi Anh (residing in Cam Xuyen district, Ha Tinh province) to take a Wave Alpha motorbike, a laptop and 500,000 VND. Nhuong gave Kha 200,000 VND.

The subject took the motorbike home and installed a fake license plate for use. The laptop was password-protected so the subject threw it into the Gai canal in Nghi Dien commune. Two days later, on February 17, Kha and Nhuong went to the house of Thai Thi Loc, born in 1975, in Tay Van hamlet, Nghi Van commune. The two subjects broke the door and pried open the cabinet to steal 15.5 million VND.

The Nghi Loc District Police Investigation Agency has decided to prosecute and temporarily detain Nguyen Van Kha and Thai Viet Nhuong to continue investigating and expanding the case./.
